20 Activities to Replace Worry

My facebook friend and preaching colleague, Benjamin Lee is also a blogger. His “I Can Do” blog features posts that are positive, proactive, and produce results when applied.

Recently, Ben has posted some material regarding worry. And this week shared some ideas on his facebook page about how to overcome and conquer worry.

Ben is right. “Worry is a habit. Habits that are picked up can be put down.” I’ve found that the best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.

In one post, Ben shared 20 things you can do to replace the habit of worry.

1. Time alone with God (Tag) in prayer. Tell every worry to God and leave them with Him. He cares (1 Peter 5:7).
2. Memorize Scripture.
3. Sing praises to God.
4. Consider God’s Creation. Stand in Awe of Him!!
4. Take a nap.
5. Work Hard! Pick up overtime to keep your mind busy.
6. Create and go after goals for the next 1-5 years.
7. Workout! Sweat! Workout!
8. Visit a shut-in.
9. Workout!
10. Cook someone a meal.
11. Read the Bible in 90-Days.
12. Buy a Journible and make your own copy of God’s word.
13. Write out 5 things you’re grateful for everyday for the next month, without repeating the same things.
14. Write a Book.
15. Gift a Book.
16. Listen to my I Can Do Podcast! Ha! (I Can Do with Benjamin Lee).
17. Sign up to teach a Bible class.
18. Review and listen to all the sermons preached this year. Take notes. Or listen to previous gospel meetings at your congregation again.
19. Color Bible Mark your Bible. Watch Kris Emerson material.
20. Pick up Pickleball.

I would add #21 to the list. Read ThePreachersWord everyday. Also we have several past posts you can access on the problem of worry and how to cope with it.

Ben’s right. “Worry is a waste of time.” As one sage quipped, “Worry is like a rocking chair. It will give you something do. But won’t get you anywhere.

Jesus’ simple admonition needs to be heard and heeded each day. “Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt. 6:34).

Finally, this thought by an unknown author. “Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles. It takes away today’s peace.”
