For the past several days the news media has played and replayed the senseless, horrific, inhumane beating of a black man in Memphis by five black ex-cops, who have since been charged with second degree murder.

Although probably apocryphal, there’s an old story about a flight delayed with a long line of disgruntled passengers waiting to be rebooked by a single gate attendant.
Impatiently, a business tycoon pushes his way to the front of the line demanding to be rebooked immediately. The agent smiled sweetly and assured him she was doing her best, but he would have to wait in line like everyone else.

Growing up on a small farm in Central Indiana, I recall the conversations my Dad had with farmers in the area. Almost every year there was some challenge to be addressed.

The tone and tenor of this post is in keeping with our current 2023 Theme, “Sowing Seeds for Spiritual Growth.” And its message is one for all time.
Sometime ago I read a devotional piece by the minister and writer Bill Crowder. He told about going to the Hallmark store to get a birthday card and came across one that read, “You are only young once, but you can be immature forever!”
I suppose if you are a fan of Peter Pan there is something attractive about never growing up. But hopefully most Christians know that perpetual immaturity is not only inappropriate, but unacceptable. Paul encourages us to mature through these words to the Ephesians.

According to the most-downloaded Bible app YouVersion, installed on over 500 million devices, the most shared Bible verse of 2022 is the same as 2020 during the rise of COVID. It also occupied the top spot in 2018.
It has universal application and shows how people felt and what or WHO is bringing them comfort. So, what does this verse offer that has such world-wide appeal?
