There are 123 Bible verses that connect “good” and “God.”
Among them, “Truly, God, is good to Israel…” (Ps 73:1)
Frequently, we hear the refrain repeated “God is good…all the time.”
In a July facebook post, Wilson Adams offered this challenging insight to our understanding of God’s goodness.
God is good… all the time.
I see posts about sickness, surgery, and successful recovery. The post script: “God is good.” Is He? Yes!
Sadly, I seldom see the same when results are not to our liking. Did God suddenly stop being good? Is God good only when the immediate results fit our plans and answer our prayers?
Joseph… Was God good when he was betrayed by his brothers, betrayed by Mrs. Potiphar, and betrayed in jail?
Job… Did God stop being good when this man reached the depths of loss?
Jesus… Was God good when His Son cried, “Why have You forsaken me?”
With any of them, it’s hard to stand in the midst of their pain and proclaim “God is good.” And yet… He is -in ways we cannot see. We are so limited in our sight and insight. He isn’t. He knows what we do not and sees beyond the valley of our shadows.
When you can’t answer the “Why?” -God is good.
When you have reached the end – God is good.
When the answer to your prayer-cry is “No,” or “Not now,” or “Wait,” -God is good.
Trust Him to know what you do not. Trust Him to bring you through the shadows.
Trust Him to give you hope in the midst of your pain.
God is good all the time -even when you struggle to see the good or understand the why.
Thanks, Wilson, for this valuable insight. Faith, hope and trust, all help us see God’s goodness…all the time.
This reminds me of another post by an anonymous writer on the “Encouragement” page. “Just because you don’t see anything happening doesn’t mean that God is not working.”
Rose Kelvin’s prayer posted on the “God is Good” group page, may need to be our prayer. “Dear God, I don’t ask You to make my life easier…but I ask you to give me the strength to face all my trouble. Amen.”
Let’s remember, as my facebook friend Ed Senior Sanderson once commented on one of my blog posts, “God is good and so are His teachings.”
Happy Friday, everyone!
