This week begins our VBS at Wellandport. Excitement is in the air. And theme decorations are adorning the classrooms, thanks to the creativity of Sherry Stephens and her helper husband, Mike.
The keyword this week is power. The children will be studying the theme WOW: Did Jesus really do that? They will learn about Jesus’ power over needs, nature, problems, sickness and Satan. They will learn about his miracles, ministry and mission on earth. Continue reading

As the world watched, following a turbulent 18-day ordeal, the 12 Thai boys and their assistant coach have been safely rescued.
The boys and their coach, members of the Wild Boars soccer team, had been exploring the Tham Luang caves in Thailand. Suddenly rising waters trapped them. And for 9 days they were stranded without any food before rescuers located them. Continue reading

In his book Presidential Praise: Our Presidents and Their Hymns, authors C. Edward Spann and Michael E. Williams Sr. note that the title of President George W. Bush’s autobiography, A Charge to Keep, was drawn from Charles Wesley’s hymn.
Apparently, this title choice was an indication of the influence this 18th-century hymn had on President Bush, as well as so many others in the past 250+ years. Continue reading

Today is the 242nd birthday of the United States of America. For the first time in my life, I’m out of the country for the 4th, although just across the border in Ontario, Canada. But I don’t have to be “home” to know that America is hurting.
A recent Gallup poll revealed that the number of US citizens who consider themselves “extremely proud to be an American” has sunk to an 18 year low. In fact, for the first time, the number fell below 50%. Continue reading
