Today our little blog has achieved a notable milestone with post #1500.
If you had told me 5 years ago that we would still be going and published 1500 posts, I probably would have laughed. In fact, such a task would sound rather daunting. But here we are. And here’s what we’ve achieved.
Past posts are easily accessed by title in 160 different topical categories. In fact almost every day more of our previous posts are read than the current one. ThePreachersWord has been read in almost every country and territory around the world. 215 to be exact. The past week alone we’ve had hits in 63 countries.
According to WordPress we are just short of 4,000 “followers.” Our readers access ThePreachersWord on facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Google, other social media, and of course through their email subscriptions. We would like everyone to sign up to receive it through email. That way you can save posts and forward them in their original form to your friends.
It seems ThePreachersWord is picking up steam, even after 5 years. We add new followers weekly. On March 9th we had our best day ever with 28,619 “hits.” And that post has been viewed over 120,000 times since then. That’s not exactly going viral, but it’s a record for ThePreachersWord.
Posts from this site have been rebloged, printed in bulletins and published in brotherhood magazines. Wherever we visit, we meet readers of ThePreachersWord. I’ve been told, it has been used for communion thoughts, devotional talks, Wednesday night invitations, and sermon starters.
ThePreachersWord is solely my personal ministry. It’s not supported by any church. Nor do we receive compensation from advertising. It is strictly a not for profit venture. Yet, we believe, very profitable.
We’re grateful for the encouragement from our readers and the kind comments, emails, and notes we’ve received expressing appreciation. Thanks to my wife, Norma Jean, for her support, suggestions, and help in proofing the posts. A special thank you to Shannon Shaffer who designed the new graphic for the header. Most of all we’re thankful to the Lord for blessing our efforts and the opportunity to minister in this manner.
In the past 5+ years we’ve been reminded of several important Biblical, life lessons from writing ThePreachersWord. Here’s 10 that come to mind.
1. Like the mustard seed, a little idea can grow into a something bigger than you ever envisioned and make a huge difference
2. Do what you can do today and don’t fret about tomorrow. Next week. Next month. Or next year.
3. Persistence pays off. The ability to stick with something over a long period of time will eventually reap rewards.
4. People treat me better than I deserve. It’s easy to focus on the negative, complaining, disagreeable reader. But overwhelmingly our readers have been kind, encouraging, patient and understanding.
5. Nothing worthwhile is achieved without a commitment. It’s true of blogging. Christian living. Relationships. And, of course, marriage.
6. Goal setting keeps you focused. Without a goal, we’d never made it to 100 posts. Goals excite us. Energize us. And encourage us.
7. Daily self-discipline is necessary to keep moving forward. Discipline breeds self-control. Prods punctuality. Welcomes responsibility. And achieves the goal.
8. The internet can be a tool for doing good. Sure, there are plenty of bad things on the ‘net. Things to be avoided. And sites to be censured. But a Godly message with a noble purpose, can reach the far ends of the earth. And touch the lives of unseen thousands of people. “Go into all the world” can be achieved by blogging.
9. Knowledge, preparation and skill are important ingredients to success in an endeavor, but ultimately action is required. The Nike’ slogan, “Just do it” applies spiritually.
10. I make mistakes. More than I care to admit. But if I waited for the perfect post, I might have a dozen. So, we forge ahead in spite of imperfections. But seek to improve. Add value. And offer words of Truth to encourage us to “draw near to God.”
Thanks for reading.
God bless you.
And may God continue to bless our efforts in days to come.
–Ken Weliever, The Preacherman
