Today is a special day for all Christians. It’s Sunday.
As we do every Sunday, we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Our worship today, like last Sunday as well as next Sunday, will center around The Supper. The Lord’s Supper. It is a solemn and serious event when we eat the Lord’s Supper. Paul, in his rebuke of the Corinthians made that quite clear.
Warren Wiersbe suggests four things that will help us in “discerning the Lord’s Body.”
(1) We should look back. (1 Cor. 11:22-23) Look back at the cross. At our Lord. And how he died. And why he died.
(2) We should look ahead. (1 Cor. 11:26b) The supper suggest a brighter day. Hope for the future. Jesus is coming back.
(3) We should look within (1 Cor. 11:27-28)Focus on the purpose. Partake in a reverent, respectful and reflective manner.
(4) We should look around (1 Cor. 11:33-34). Not in a critical way. Not necessarily in a literal way. But figuratively, appreciating our mutual relationship in the Lord.
Wherever you are in the world, I hope you can meet with other Christians and eat The Supper. Realize its significance. Remember Jesus. Reflect upon his death. Celebrate His victory and ours through Him.
