Yesterday we received a call from our daughter in Florida, Rachél Thompson, regarding her husband, Jared. He was just diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.
Jared recently had a tonsillectomy. They both, as well as the doctor, had a feeling there was more to this than a normal surgery. A biopsy was performed from the tonsils and they received the results yesterday.
Rachél and Jared are upbeat and positive. There is no evidence of the Lymphoma spreading anywhere else in the body. But he will soon begin both radiation and chemotherapy treatments. We are confident in a good outcome.
While this news is disconcerting, there is much to feel good about. The Lymphoma was discovered in the very early stages. Jared will be treated at one the finest cancer hospitals in the nation, The Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. He is young and in good health.
But there is more. Rachél and Jared are good people. God’s people. People of faith. People of prayer. And they have a community of Christians in the Tampa area that will be praying for them. Encouraging them. Blessing them.
So I have a personal request for the readers of ThePreachersWord around the world. Please lift up Jared in your prayers before the Father’s throne. The Bible teaches us to pray when we are sick (Jas 5:13-15). Indeed “the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
We often say “there is power in prayer.” Actually the power is in the Almighty God we serve. Prayer is the conduit to His throne of grace and mercy. We believe HE is “able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we think or ask” (Eph 3:20).
April 25th will mark Jared and Rachél’s second wedding anniversary. Aside from the obvious prejudice of a doting father, they are a wonderful couple, perfect for each other. We pray they will enjoy many years and a long life together. We pray God’s richest blessings on them. And we pray for Jared to have a complete, total and cancer-free recovery.
Thank you for reading this very personal post. And thank you for your prayers.

We’ve traveled the road at Moffitt Cancer Center for almost eleven years with a cancer that is rarely beat. We have been blessed beyond our expectations. We know that the prayers of the righteous have comforted us when there didn’t seem like there was hope and those petitions to our Father were heard and answered. We will send our prayers on Jared’s behalf.

What a blessing to have both prayer and the family of God for support. How difficult it would be to cope without them. May God bless all of you.

Will definately keep them in my prayers. I was fortunate to become friends with Rachel while we were in Tampa together and enjoyed getting to know her better. We miss seeing her now that we are in OK, but have thought of her often. I pray that she and her new husband Jared will have a long life together after this trial of health issues. Wish I was closer and could help, but will think of them often and send my love.

May the peace of God guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. May the power of God work such healing that you find yourselves praising Him as never before. May nearness to God result in His using this trial to transform each of you more and more into Christ’s image. And may your faith and hope in God, shown to be genuine, be used by the Lord to draw others to Him as they see Him magnified in your lives.

Prayers for Jared as he battles his war against this disease. May he be swaddled in the love and peace that comes through knowing Christ. How blessed he is to have such a united family through the Saviour. I will certainly pass on the need for continued prayers of hope, strength and healing as Jared, Rachel, and the family members of this young couple, as they cope with this ordeal. God bless you all and trust that in ALL things, God knows best.

This prayer request last February for my son-in-law, Jared, received the 2nd most reader views of any 2014 post. As an update, Jared successfully completed his chemo and radiation treatments and is believed to be cancer-free! During this time he worked, earned his Master’s degree, and became a first time father! What a year! We are thankful for God’s goodness and grace toward Jared and our family.
