Do You Need Power Washing?

Today I had my lanai and screens power washed.  I watched in amazement  as the screens had that film of mildew, dust and dirt washed off.  What a difference.  This was something I knew that I needed done, but didn’t realize how badly it was needed. Continue reading

Did Abraham Use Atlas Van Lines?

Today I’ve been thinking about Abraham.  You know Abram in the Old Testament.  The one that God called and said, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you” (Gen 12:1).  Have you ever thought about how Abraham managed to move? Continue reading

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit one of their old university professors, now retired. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in work and their lives. Continue reading

In Memory of My Mother

Yesterday was Mother’s Day.  Some of you received flowers.  A nice card.  Maybe candy.  And of course, it’s a time to take Mom  out to eat!  But I hope you all remembered to give your mother the gift of honor.  “Honor your mother” is commanded from the apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:2.   The word “honor” means to esteem, to revere, to value, or to venerate.

My Mom, Mattie Weliever,  passed from this life on December 29, 2009, but I continue to honor her. While my reasons may be  different from yours, here is why I hold my Mom’s memory is such high esteem.  Continue reading

IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! Overcoming Evil

Evil.  It was in abundance on that Friday in Jerusalem.  Evil hearts that killed Christ.  Think about it.

The Pharisees and religious leaders hearts were filled with envy.   Pilate knew it.  He said so.  Evil plotting. Evil planning. Evil purposes.  These men were outwardly religious.  But inside they were corrupt. “ Whitewashed tombs,” Jesus called them.  Evil.  Continue reading

President Obama Supports Same Sex Marriage

My blog on Tuesday, “Is Morality Evolving,” is already partially outdated. (If you haven’t seen it, read it first. https://thepreachersword.com/2012/05/08/is-morality-evolving/)

I stated what President Obama has repeatedly said over the past three years that his view of same-sex marriage is “evolving.” On Wednesday his evolution was fully completed. The President has “come out” and said that he now favors same-sex marriage. In a quickly called news conference the President said, “At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” Continue reading

Just For Today

In Bill Keane’s comic strip, Family circus, he has Dolly sharing this bit of wisdom with her little brother P.J. “Yesterday’s the past.  Tomorrow’s the future.  But today is a gift.  That’s why it’s called the present.”  Continue reading

Is Morality Evolving?

(During the Christmas break, we are rebloging the top 5 posts of 2012 based on the number of “hits” by our readers.  This one was tied for #5.  Thanks for reading ThePreachersWord and sharing with others)
“I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and heterosexual men and women marrying are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties,” said Vice President, Joe Biden, on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He  went on to say the situation is “evolving” and that the “social culture” is changing.

On Monday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, when asked if he thinks gay couples should be able to legally marry, said, “Yes, I do.”

And our President has been on record for some time saying that his views of same-sex marriage are “evolving.” Continue reading

IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! Atheists ‘Cross’ Over The Cross

Atheists are upset.  Again.  This time The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF)  has sued the town of Woonsocket, RI over a cross in the parking lot of the town’s fire department.  According to the Woonsocket Call Newspaper, as reported by the Huffington Post, the offending monument was unveiled in 1921 in memory of William Jolicoeur, a member of the American Continue reading
