Find Your Greatness

“Find Your Greatness” is the theme of the new Nike ad.  Since Nike is not an official sponsor of the 2012 London Olympics, they cleverly  initiated a marketing campaign featuring athletes in towns named “London.”  Little London, Jamaica.  East   London, South Africa.  And even a health club called London Gym in London, Ohio!  But here’s the really neat part of the ad. Would You Like To Be A Minister?

Oliver Cromwell of Britain was one of the great politicians and solders in the mid 1600’s.  He served in the British Parliament for many years.  During that time Britain was running very low on silver for coins, so they began to search for sources of the precious metal.  The place where they found the most silver was in the Cathedrals.  And specifically in the statues of the saints.  Cromwell is purported to have said, “Well let’s melt down the saints and put them into circulation!”  Continue reading

Service Above Self

107 years ago day on February 23, 1905, Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney,  met with three business colleagues Gustavus Loehr, Hiram Shorey, and Silvester Schiele  to talk about their personal experiences. Harris then unfolded his general plan for the formation of a club. From that inauspicious beginning the world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago was born.  Today there are more than 1.2 million Rotarians in 34,000 clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas world-wide, who volunteer their time, share their talent and give of their treasure to serve their local community and people around the world.
