An Ancient Message For Today’s World

This week Norma Jean and I are attending the annual Florida College Lectures in Temple Terrace, Florida.

This year’s theme is “Come, Let Us Return to the Lord” and is subtitled, “The Preaching of the Minor Prophets for Today.” It promises to be a rich week filled with application from these Old Testament preachers. Continue reading

Because We Have a Great High Priest

Last week Norma Jean and I were blessed to attend the annual Florida College Lectures. The theme was “We Have a Great High Priest.” The lessons were based on the book of Hebrews.

In Rick Boswell’s lecture a New High Priest, he quotes Michael Heiser who said, “It is important to recognize that within the greater context of the book of Hebrews, chapter 4:14 to chapter 5:10 is about building confidence in Christ and His work on our behalf. Christ’s incarnation (Heb. 2:17) was so that He could be a merciful and faithful High Priest as well as to make propitiation for the sins of the people.” Continue reading

You Have Need of Endurance

Yesterday morning at the Florida College Lectures Ken Chapman reminisced about his years growing up in North Alabama.

He recalled how much he looked forward to playing football as a third grader during recess. There were occasions he said when older students would assist or supervise the younger ones during this play period, and sometimes they would join in the game. Continue reading

Friday’s List To Live By #39

Yesterday, at the Florida College Lectures, Norm Webb, Jr. who’s a gospel preacher as well as a financial advisor with Edward Jones presented an excellent lesson entitled “Rich Toward God: Using Wealth Faithfully for the King.”

His lesson combined the parables of the rich fool and the unrighteous steward. Today’s list, with only some slight modifications, comes from his lecture manuscript where he offered some practical suggestions for money management. Continue reading
