IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! The Scars Tell The Story

 There is a scene in the movie Jaws, when they are out on the boat hunting for the killer shark. They’re chatting after supper and begin to compare scars and tell war stories

Each one is trying to out do the other with a scarier story and a bigger scar.  One guy says he cut his leg on a reef while scuba diving.  The second guy shows his scar when he was bitten by a shark.  Finally the third guy opens his shirt and points to his chest.  “What happened?  Did you have a bypass or something? IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! Overcoming Evil

Evil.  It was in abundance on that Friday in Jerusalem.  Evil hearts that killed Christ.  Think about it. 

The Pharisees and religious leaders hearts were filled with envy.   Pilate knew it.  He said so.  Evil plotting. Evil planning. Evil purposes.  These men were outwardly religious.  But inside they were corrupt. “ Whitewashed tombs,” Jesus called them.  Evil.  Continue reading

Tributes to Christ and the Cross

This week I’m attending the Florida College Lectures.  The theme is “Of First Importance: He Died and was Buried.”  It is a series of studies on the crucifixion.  In his forward to the lecture book, FC President Buddy Payne asks, “What could be more important to believers than this glorious message of “Jesus Christ and Him crucified?  What message is more desperately needed by a lost and dying world?  What better way to be motivated and strengthened in our service to the Lord than to reflect upon his sacrificial death?” Continue reading
