There’s an old story of an African-American preacher who was trying to motivative his congregation to greater ministry. As he concluded his sermon, he said if this church is going to go it’s got to walk the walk. To which someone, responded, “Let her walk, preacher!”
Then he said, if this church is going to grow, it’s gotta get up and run. Among a chorus of “Amens” someone hollered, “Let her run, preacher!” Continue reading

Our regular readers know that we left Kentucky last Friday and drove to Florida. Yes, the state being threatened by hurricane Dorian.
Some thought we were crazy, but believe me, we made an informed decision. We’ve lived here. We know about the destructive nature of a powerful storm. We’re aware of the “cone of uncertainty.” We also know the difference between media hype and accurate reporting. The storm seemed to be tracking in a direction that was opposite from where we would be. Yet, at any point, we were prepared to turn around and drive to a safe place. Continue reading

“Anybody can become angry, that is easy,” observed the ancient philosopher Aristotle, “but to be angry at the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose and in the right way–that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.”

You’ve probably never heard of Ryan Hrelgac from Kemptville, Ontario, Canada. But he’s an incredible young man.
When Ryan was only 6 years old, he learned in school of children in African villages who didn’t have access to clean drinking water. So, he began raising money to help by doing household chores. In a period of 4 months, he raised $70.
Encouraged by his attitude and actions, others began to join Ryan and during the next 12 months, he raised $2,000. Within two years Ryan had raised $61,000. Continue reading

This week I’m preaching in a meeting at Wellandport, Ontario, Canada. Last night a lady walked out of the building, shook my hand and wistfully commented, “I wish more people could have been here to have heard that sermon.”

In the first century, there were basically two views of the human body. One was that it should be worshiped for its beauty and idolized for its strength. The body was something to be proud of and to flaunt.
On the other hand, some believed that the body was inherently sinful. That the body didn’t matter. Only the spirit mattered. In fact, the body was just a shackle and a prison house. It was something to be despised and ashamed of. Continue reading
