Who Says So?

What do you say when you talk to yourself?  Come on!  Admit it!  You know you do.  We all do.  We are constantly talking to ourselves.  Thinking.  Imagining.  Reflecting.  Telling ourselves what we want to hear.  Continue reading

A TOUGH BOOK TO SWALLOW

A man walked into a local bookstore and asked if he could make a return.

“Sure,” said the sales clerk, “What do you have?

It’s a Bible,” he said, handing it to the clerk. Continue reading

A Marriage Made in Paradise

One of my favorite authors, anonymous, wrote the TOP TEN REASONS WHY GOD CREATED EVE.

9. God knew that Adam would one day need someone to hand him the TV remote.

8. God knew that Adam would never buy a new fig leaf when his seat wore out and would therefore need Eve to get one for him.

7. God knew that Adam would never make a doctor’s appointment for himself. Continue reading

Tasting God’s Goodness

My wife, Norma Jean, has a lot of great recipes.  Suppose we invited you over one Saturday night.  We sit down at the table and she passes around her recipe for grape salad,  poppy-seed chicken, sweet potato casserole, squash casserole and home-made yeast rolls.  She sees your puzzled expression, and says, “Go ahead and read them.”  And I add, “Yes they taste great!  Just wait until you read her desert recipe for Strawberry cake!” Continue reading

This was Tuesday’s headline from many newspapers and internet news sources.

By now, I’m sure you’ve read or heard about the eleven Secret Service agents and ten military personnel who were sent to Cartagena, Columbia, to protect the President and were caught with twenty-one women in their hotel. Continue reading

Humility–A Forgotten Virtue

There is an old Mac Davis song that says, “Oh Lord, it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way.  I can’t wait to look in the mirror cause I get better looking each day.”  That reminds me of the quote by Muhammad Ali, who when he was in his prime said, “It’s hard to be humble when you are as great as I am.”  Continue reading

Did Jesus Pay Taxes?

Is it just me, or does it seem like Christians grumble a lot about paying taxes?

With recent news accounts about government waste, extravagant trips and questionable expenditures  of our tax money, it does make paying taxes a bit distasteful at times.

But what would Jesus do?  Did Jesus pay taxes?  Continue reading
