One of the great enemies of zeal that threatens to extinguish its fire is weariness.
Weariness may be described as fatigue. Exhaustion. Or burnout. One writer offered this insight about the serious challenge of weariness.
“Weariness undermines zeal by diminishing motivation, reducing focus, and leading to spiritual burnout. It can make it difficult to maintain the enthusiasm and passion needed for long-term dedication to a cause or goal, especially in spiritual contexts.” Continue reading

My facebook friend and former Florida College classmate, Becky Hunter Copeland, recently posted a quote from Dennis F. Kinlaw that captured my attention and spawned a few thoughts for today’s “facebook Friday.”

On this day in history, May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary became the first man to climb Mount Everest.
Along with Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, the British expedition become the first known explorers to reach the Everest summit, which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point on earth.
Hillary was knighted for his efforts. He even made American Express credit card commercials because of it. However, when you read his book, High Adventure, you realize that Hillary had to grow into this success. Continue reading

“Making disciples, not members,” was the title of a Christian Chronicle article by Calvin Cockrell, I recently read online.
In it Cockrell quotes Quincy Byrdsong a minister at the Simpson Street Church of Christ in Atlanta, who said, “We have to quit just baptizing and not making disciples.” Continue reading

A Bible class teacher was presenting the lesson to a children’s class about Jesus’ parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector who “went up to the Temple to pray.”
The Pharisees said, “God, I thank You that I am not like other men.” He then began to recite the sins he didn’t commit. Extortion. Adultery. And injustice. He even cited the Tax Collector saying, “Thank God, I’m not like him.” Continue reading
