Weekly Recap: October 30-November 3

Time passes slowly when you’re young, and quickens as you get old. Summer lasted forever when I was seven, but now it only visits,” opines author Sonya Hartnet.

With this weekly post we’re reminded of the rapid passing of time.  It’s November.  Thanksgiving will soon be here.  Then before you know it, it’s Christmas.  Then a new year.  Lord willing.  Also this is the day we set our clocks back 1 hour before we go to bed tonight. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: October 23-27

Greetings from The Great Smoky Mountains

We’ve been blessed with a wonderful week in the Smokies, enjoying the Fall foliage,  some special R & R, and some good ole Tennessee food.

We’ve also enjoyed our fellowship with the Cosby church, where I will be preaching again tomorrow at their 11:00 AM worship service.  If you’re vacationing in the Smoky Mountains, we recommend this church family as a wonderful place to worship.  It’s an easy, and scenic, 15-20 minute drive east of Gatlinburg on 321. Weekly Recap: October 16-20

Greeting from Cobbly Nob, TN

After a wonderful and well received Gospel Meeting in Martinsville, VA, and a few days in the Bryson City area, we are concluding our trip North with a visit to our happy place–Cobbly Nob in the Smoky Mountains.

This year we’re staying at the Deer Ridge Mountain Resort between Gatlinburg and Cosby.  This place almost seems like home, since we got “stranded” here for 8 weeks in 2020 during COVID. I know, not a bad place to be “stranded.”  We love the view.  It’s away from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but close enough to enjoy some of the restaurants and activities there. Weekly Recap: October 9-13

Greetings from Martinsville, VA

Norma Jean and I are enjoying the Fall weather and the hospitality of the brethren at the Chatham Heights church while I’m conducting a gospel meeting here.

It’s been good to reconnect with an old friend from Plainfield, Indiana, John Berlin, who recently retired from full-time preaching, as well as make a new friend, their current preacher, Eric Bridge. The meeting has been well-attended and the interest in the lessons  is very encouraging.  We appreciate the opportunity to share the Word and the kindness of these good brethren. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: October 2-6

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

Fall weather is supposedly coming to Florida this weekend.  Here that means upper 70’s to 80 for the high.  And upper 50’s to low 60’s for the low.  But we’re ready for some real Fall weather, so we’re heading North.

After preaching at West Citrus tomorrow, we’re leaving Monday for a meeting in Martinsville, VA at the Chatham Heights Church, which begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday (Oct. 11-15).  It’s our first time there.  So, we’re looking forward to making new friends.

Then we’re headed to the Smoky Mountains where I will be preaching the following two Sundays at the Cosby Church.  If you are in driving distance of either of these churches, we’d love to see you. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: September 18-22

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

Based on our calendar, summer ends today.  And Fall begins tomorrow.  In Florida that means a predicted high today of 84, and a low of  65.  Although our local Dunkin’ is selling pumpkin spiced lattes, it doesn’t seem like Fall yet. But cooler temperatures will come.  Sooner or later.

However, what has not cooled off, is reader interest in ThePreachersWord.  We’re happy to be back on a regular posting schedule and appreciate the many comments and well wishes we’ve received over the past week.  It’s encouraging for people to come up to me whether at church, when traveling, or even the other day at the YMCA and mention a blog post they’ve read.  Thank you.

In that regard, WordPress indicates that many of our readers missed Thursday’s post, “Stop Saying Biological Women.”  If you didn’t see it, please take time to read the courageous story of  this former UK athlete, Riley Gaines, and her stand for Biblical truth.  You’ll love her no-nonsense quotes about gender. Hawaiian Posts Recap

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

Yes, we’re home.  Contrary to facebook rumors we did not move to Hawaii.

However, we did enjoy an incredible, once in a life time, extended stay celebrating our 55th anniversary.  While taking the first week off from blogging, we did manage to produce 8 new posts during our stay. All of these have some basis in our trip.  Something we saw. Someone we met. Something we did.  So, if you missed any of these, this recap is a good way to help you catch up.  Arlo I’m including a bonus post at the end. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: August 7-11

Greeting from Citrus County, Florida.

This week Norma Jean and I hosted Ray and Bonnie Pringle from South Africa.  Ray began preaching full time 3 years ago and is visiting churches in the States who are supporting him. They are a delightful couple. Committed to the Lords work.  Serving in area that is under served by full time preachers. And dedicated to sharing the gospel in their home country. Continue reading
