Yes, we’re home.  It feels good after being gone for almost two months.  And especially so after living out a suitcase in hotels for the past two weeks.   It’s nice to get up, walk to my kitchen, make my own coffee, and write from my little office while sitting in my robe.  For some reason the Hampton Inn discourages that. Yesterday marked 4 weeks since we crossed the border and entered Ontario.  It’s been a busy time of teaching, preaching and enjoying the fellowship of these wonderful brethren.  We are thankful for the opportunity to minister in the Word and share time together.

Much has happened in the US since we’ve been away.   Our political, economic, and cultural events are of great interest to Canadians since it does impact their country as well.  Conservatives share similar concerns, and certainly Bible believers up here embrace the same values.  I noted a survey earlier that 70% of Canadians believe their country is “broken.”  This corresponds to a poll in the US that revealed over 3/4 of Americans believe our country is on the wrong track.  In that regard, if you missed it, I hope you will read “Seven Suggestions for Living in Uncertain Times.” Continue reading →

This week is one of the highlights of our trip to Canada–VBS at the Wellandport Church.

This is the 5th year I have taught the adult class since we began coming in 2018.  This year’s theme was based on the FLOOD and the VBS material supplied by Apologetics Press. Although small in number by US standards, the Wellandport Church puts on a top notch VBS,  The  planning and preparation was evident from the decor the classroom and building, to the activities of the teachers, and the obvious excitement and enthusiasm of the children.  It was a pleasure to have a part on this year’s study. After two weeks we’re getting settled in and enjoying renewing our association with the special brethren here in Ontario. They have received us (again) so graciously. We  have already been recipients of their wonderful hospitality and thoughtful gestures.

This coming week promises to be one of our busiest, but also the most exciting.  Sunday we began our VBS at Wellandport where I will be teaching the adult class. The material is based on the FLOOD from Apologetics Press.  It’s going to be a great week.  And a wonderful faith-building experience for both adults and kids. Continue reading →

This will be our last post from Florida for a while.  Monday we are leaving for a summer trip to Ontario, Canada.  This year we will be staying in Welland in the Niagara region.

While it will be nice to escape the oppressive Florida heat for a while, more importantly we are looking forward to being with our Canadian brethren again.  Already scheduled are preaching appointments in Wellandport, Hamilton, and Kingston.  Also we will be teaching the adult class at the Wellandport VBS.  If time and opportunity permits, we may add a couple more speaking engagements. We’ve enjoyed a wonderful week in Temple Terrace attending the VBS at the TT Church.  We took all four of our grandchildren, Roy, Miles, Katherine, and Fern.  It was fun to witness their excitement as they thrilled at the narratives about Daniel and the 3 Hebrew captives–Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego.   The theme, Building Faith in Babylon, was a faith building experience not only for the kids, but for adults who attended the auditorium class.  We appreciate the hard work by the TT brethren in making this event possible. Six years ago this month Norma Jean and I turned an important page in our lives and ministry as we ventured into new and unchartered territory.  Stepping away from full time local church work after spending 48 years in that endeavor which included 9 congregations in 6 states, we began traveling full time, combining our travel with ministry opportunities.

Over the next 33 months we traveled to 36 states, 10 countries and visited 48 congregations.  It was an exciting and rewarding adventure.  Hopefully it was also edifying for the churches where we preached.  In come cases, it was a single Sunday sermon.  Or a weekend or week long Gospel Meeting,  In other places, we stayed from 1-3 months where we preached and taught classes. We made new friends, Embraced new opportunities. And were encouraged by brethren from churches both large and small. Continue reading →
