Weekly Recap: October 7-11

Greetings from Beverly Hill, Florida

Where we live in Citrus Country, about 150 miles North of Sarasota and 75 miles North of Tampa,  you would never know that our coast has experienced two major hurricanes, both with devastating yet different affects, within the past two weeks.  It’s a reminder that it’s easy to be oblivious to the needs, problems, and challenges of others when you’re living in the sunshine.  However, TV, the internet, and social media portray all too well the destruction and accompanying suffering that others are enduring.

Our posts this week have offered our perspective as we have faced the storm, as well as encouragement for us to seek and seize opportunities to do good and serve those who need help the most. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: September 23-27

Greeting from rain soaked Citrus County, FL

Many of our friends and readers around the US and Canada have inquired about our welfare since hurricane Helene hit our coast aptly called The Nature Coast.

The town closest to us, Crystal River, which made the national news, suffered extensive flooding.  Helene’s forceful winds were felt farther North of us where it made land fall.  But our coast had record high flood waters.  Our son, Kenny and his family, live on a river that accesses the Gulf, so they had about 3 feet of water come over their banks, through their carport and most of their property.  Fortunately, their house is raised up so it didn’t flood.  For us personally, we live about 15 miles, as the crow files, from the Gulf.  We’re 130′ above sea level.  So, we had no problems with flooding and very little impact from the storm other than rain. Greeting from Beverly Hills, FL

We’re home after a wonderful week with the brethren in Huntington Beach, California. It was good to be with Joe Griffin, who preaches for the Huntington Beach Church and his wife Debbie.  We not only  made new friends, but were able to meet some of our readers of ThePreachersWord and see some other friends of bygone days visiting from other congregations.  We feel blessed as we continue to travel and minister in the Word as the opportunities are offered. Weekly Recap: September 9-13

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

Today Norma Jean and I are leaving for Huntington Beach, California, where I will be preaching in a meeting beginning tomorrow, September 15th through Wednesday the 18th.  It’s our first time to preach for this congregation.  So we are looking forward to meeting the brethren and reconnecting with friends from Kansas City days, Joe and Debra Griffin.

The other day at church a brother quipped to me, “You’re the busiest retired preacher I know.”  Well,  I guess it depends on how you define “retirement.”  Since 2018 we have not been tied down to local church work, but are continuing to preach, teach, write and travel as opportunities are provided.  We are blessed. Weekly Recap: August 12-16

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

Yes, we’re home.  It feels good after being gone for almost two months.  And especially so after living out a suitcase in hotels for the past two weeks.   It’s nice to get up, walk to my kitchen, make my own coffee, and write from my little office while sitting in my robe.  For some reason the Hampton Inn discourages that. Weekly Recap: July 22-26

Greetings from Welland, Ontario, Canada

Yesterday marked 4 weeks since we crossed the border and entered Ontario.  It’s been a busy time of teaching, preaching and enjoying the fellowship of these wonderful brethren.  We are thankful for the opportunity to minister in the Word and share time together.

Much has happened in the US since we’ve been away.   Our political, economic, and cultural events are of great interest to Canadians since it does impact their country as well.  Conservatives share similar concerns, and certainly Bible believers up here embrace the same values.  I noted a survey earlier that 70% of Canadians believe their country is “broken.”  This corresponds to a poll in the US that revealed over 3/4 of Americans believe our country is on the wrong track.  In that regard, if you missed it, I hope you will read “Seven Suggestions for Living in Uncertain Times.” Continue reading
