Weekly Recap: December 1-5

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

“It’s good to be home,” Norma Jean reflected as we pulled in our driveway on Wednesday afternoon.   Indeed.  Trips are fun.  And often profitable.  But home?  Well, it just feels good to be home.

Of course, she may have been feeling some joy in knowing that our 2025 travel schedule is finished after being away for about 19 weeks this year.  It’s a bit of a joke where we worship that I preach there when I’m home, but I’m never home!  But we will be home at West Citrus every Sunday in December and most of January and February. If you’re traveling to Florida this winter, come over to the Nature Coast and worship with us.  We’d love to see you.  And maybe enjoy some of our delicious seafood together.

Weekly Recap: November 17-22

Greetings from Indian Shores Beach

We’re here a little early for our annual Thanksgiving Getaway with our family.  We’ve been blessed to make this beach trip for 9 consecutive years.  This has easily become our favorite section of beach along Florida’s West Coast.  It’s not nearly as crowded as other tourist sections like Clearwater or St. Pete Beach.  It’s clean, quiet, and has a beautiful view over the Gulf with absolutely gorgeous sunsets. Weekly Recap: October20-24

Greetings from Gatlinburg,

What a blessing to enjoy the handiwork of God’s creation in the beautiful Smoky Mountains.  And especially so in the Fall, with colorful foliage dotting the mountains and valleys.

It’s also a blessing to reconnect with old friends —some local, some from out of state —who are visiting the Smokies, as well as the brethren in the little church we’ve come to love at Cosby. It’s always a delight to be with our friends, Olie and Mary Williamson, who are pillars in both the church and the community.  At 93 years young, still preaching and playing golf, Olie gives us hope of more years to minister and serve the Lord. Weekly Recap: October 6-10

Greetings from the Volunteer State!

Yep. Like Willie Nelson sang, “We’re on the road again.”

We’re on the way to Bowling Green, KY, where I’ll be preaching at a meeting in Butler County at the Christian Home Church.  This is a special place for me. I’m returning to my spiritual roots. It’s where my Papaw and Granny Key attended church while my Mom was growing up.  In fact, Mom was baptized there.  Well, actually, nearby in Welch’s Creek.  Over the years, I’ve been blessed to preach there on several occasions. Still, it’s always special to return—a wonderful trip down memory lane that reminds me of the importance of family, faith, and the legacy passed down to each of us from past generations. Weekly Recap: September 29-October 3

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

“Where did September go?” Norma Jean exclaimed to me the other day.  Did anyone else say or think that?  It certainly seems that time moves quickly as we get older.   It reminds me of a thought-provoking quote by an anonymous author, “The older you get, the faster time passes in your mind, so use your time according to what is most important.” Continue reading

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

Welcome to our new readers from China.

Over the past 13 years, ThePreachersWord has been read by people in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.  But there have been very few hits from China.  However, over the past month, we’ve seen a significant increase, going from just a handful of hits to thousands.  I’m not sure of the reason or the source, but thank you to whoever is sharing our little blog with the people of China.  We welcome our Chinese readers and invite you to submit your questions or comments.  Continue reading

Weekly Recap: September 15-19

Greetings from Jacksonville, FL

This week, Norma Jean and I have been the guests of the Cypress Grove Church, where  I’m holding a meeting.

Russ Roberts preaches for this wonderful group of Christians.  His ministry has been greatly enhanced by the loving involvement of his wife, Liz, the daughter of the late Ed Harrell.  The church has about 50 members, with many young couples and around 20 children.  So, the atmosphere is lively, enthusiastic, and welcoming.  We’ve been warmly received this week and encouraged by their reception of the lessons.  If you’re ever in this area, we recommend you pay them a visit. Weekly Recap: September 8-12

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

This week has reminded us that we live in a dark world.   A world of hate. Vindictiveness. Vengeance. A wicked world of sin that seems to know no shame.  We hope that, in some small way, our posts provide a respite from all the negativity around us.  It’s our desire to offer a perspective that sheds light and gives you some help, hope, and peace.
