On The Lighter Side

My friend and preaching colleague, Kent Heaton, publishes a blog, Minute Moments.

He recently posted these Bible riddles, questions and quips on facebook, entitled “The Lighter Side.” With so much negativity, problems, and pressures in our world today, maybe a bit of humor on this Friday would serve us well.

Back To School Advice

Student Athlete Advancement (SSA) is an organization that provides guidance to High School student athletes who are being recruited to colleges and universities.

I like the quote on their web page: “”WINNING isn’t everything. But WANTING TO WIN is.” That puts sports in its proper perspective, but elevates an attitude that is necessary to be successful in life. Continue reading

Let Your Pain Make You Better, Not Bitter

Pain is a problem for many people. No, not just the suffering, but understanding “why.”

While volumes have been written on the subject, this short facebook post from “Daily Devotionals by Rick Warren”, with credit given to the source “How to Get Through What You’re Going Through,” offers some insight. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: July 17-21

Greeting from Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada

This week has been really busy.  We participated in the Wellandport VBS, teaching the adult class.

Our theme was “Fearless Deeds of the Defenders.”  It was an incredibly exciting, encouraging and faith-strengthening week. This little church puts on a BIG VBS.  It was well attended by the local members and attracted a number of visitors.  We had 40+ in  the childrens’ classes. And 20-25 in the adult class. We commend these brothers and sisters for the dedication, devotion and hard work putting this together.

BTW,  our battle cry is now, “FEARLESS.” Continue reading

“In Christ Alone My Hope is Found”

“The lives of a 6th grade class in East Harlem were forever changed on the day self-made millionaire Eugene Land challenged them with the promise, ‘Stay in school, and I’ll help pay the college tuition for every one of you.’”

“One student said, ‘I had something to look forward to, something waiting for me. It was a golden feeling.’ Nearly 90% of that class went on to graduate from high school.” Continue reading

Tearing Down Strongholds

Tim Tebow and his wife, Demi, have recently been touring Greece and sharing their thoughts and adventures on facebook.

I found this post particularly insightful, practical, and applicable to my life.

“Hey guys, wanted to share another impactful place Demi and I learned about while in Greece. In the background of ancient Corinth is this mountain/hill called Acrocorinth.” Continue reading

Serving and Protecting

This random post appeared on my facebook news feed recently by Emma Isabella. I don’t know her, but she shared a compelling and touching story by Emanuel Dotch, who’s a police officer for the Pritchard, Alabama, police department.

“Tonight while I was out riding around looking for something to eat, I was riding on I-10 and I noticed this elderly lady driving by herself headed towards Florida.” Continue reading

Making the Case for Being Trans

While there may be much to be said that is negative about social media, there are also many positive posts.  On Facebook Friday we share something each week that catches our attention.  It may be funny. Insightful. Informative.  Or instructive.  Sometimes we use it as a springboard to comment. Other times, we publish without additional comments.

Today’s post is from the page of  F. LaGard Smith.  He offers an interesting and unexpected twist on being Trans.  Don’t give up on the article. Read it to the end. Continue reading
