As we await the final votes to be tallied from Tuesday’s election, here are few thoughts I came across on faceook, that are worthy of our consideration, as we view politics and government from a Christian worldview. Continue reading

1 Peter 2:10-11
Do you ever feel like we’re living in a world where everything is upside down?
We live in a world where what used to be wrong, is now called right. Where evil is called good. And good is called evil.
We live in a world where we’re pressured not just to tolerate, but to endorse and celebrate every deviate lifestyle imaginable. Where the abnormal is considered normal. And now normal is outdated and called bigoted. Where boys can become girls, and girls can change into boys. And where the most basic understanding of human biology is now questioned, and highjacked with new pronouns. Continue reading

Sin is Worse than Missing the Mark

I recently read about an 8 year old girl, Aryanna Schneeberg, from Campbellsport, Wisconsin, who was playing in her backyard when she was suddenly struck in the back with an arrow.
The arrow penetrated her lung, spleen, stomach and liver, which required a 2 ½ hour surgery to save Aryanna’s life.
Following an investigation, Sheriff Mylan Fink reported that a teen boy and his friend were shooting arrows at squirrels from the balcony of an apartment complex. Continue reading

Word of the Week: Election
Some pundits have called tomorrow’s election the “most consequential mid-term election in history.” This follows what was labled two years ago as the “most consequential Presidential election in history.”
Although I didn’t research it, you could probably find many past elections in the storied history of America as being called “the most consequential.”
Now, I’m not minimizing the importance of exercising our right to vote. Norma Jean and I have already voted and carried our ballot to our drop off site. Interestingly, a friend saw my “I voted” sticker and joking said, “Did you vote for the right people?” (At least I think he was joking.) Continue reading

Weekly Recap: October 31-November 4
Good Morning from Beverly Hills, FL
Although cooler Fall temperatures haven’t reached the sunshine state yet (the predicted high is going to be 85), it’s going to be a beautiful day. But where ever you are in the world whether it’s raining, snowing, or already freezing cold, remember “this is the day the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps. 118:24).
We’re sending out this post in case you may have missed one through the week. With its live links, it’s a quick way to catch up. And also to share ThePreachersWord with your family and friends via email or social media. Continue reading

People Who Make a Difference
Versions of this have been around a long time. I recently saw this again on the facebook page of my friend and preaching colleague, Steve Wolfgang.
It’s credited to Charles Schultz, the creator of the comic strip “Peanuts.” And worth repeating and reposting. To get the point, you don’t have to write down the answers, just read through the two quizzes. Continue reading

Discipline
In the spirit of “Throwback Thursday,” here is my first Thursday post ever on ThePreachersWord.
“The most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not. It is the first lesson that ought to be learned and however early a person’s training begins, it is probably the last lesson a person learns thoroughly.” –Thomas L. Huxley
I know Huxley was right. My parents tried to teach me self-discipline, and I’m still learning it. Success requires self-discipline. The student, the athlete, and the business person must all cultivate the habit of self-discipline. It is true spiritually.

John 8:1-11
“He who is without sin let him cast the first stone.”
This may be one of the most misunderstood, misused and misapplied Bible quotes by both Christians and non-Christians alike.
The quote occurs in today’s passage, while Jesus was teaching in the Temple. He was rudely interrupted by the scribes and Pharisees, parading an immoral woman, who was placed in the center of the crowd. Continue reading

God Will See
On this day, November 1, 1512, the Sistine Chapel in Rome, was exhibited for the public to see the finished work of the Italian artist Michelangelo.
After years of demonstrating his mastery of sculpture, Michelangelo was commissioned to paint the ceiling of the chapel with a series of amazing frescoes. The project expanded from a simple depiction of the twelve apostles to include more than four hundred figures, and nine scenes from the book of Genesis, the most famous being the creation of Adam.
