“I Don’t Want My Son to Inherit the Sins of His Mother,” was the title of an article that caught my attention in Christianity Today online.
It was piece on parenting by Anna Taylor discussing the concern we should have for not only the physical health of our children, but more importantly their spiritual well being.
It was one of those articles in which I found myself alternating agreeing with and disagreeing with the author. Continue reading

Some time ago Forbes Magazine published a piece “Give Up…To Grow.” It was career advice for business and professional people about giving up a position, a job, or some aspect of control in order to be more successful.
The article spoke of getting out of one’s comfort zone, assuming risks, and “taking a leap of faith.” The point of the article was that financial, business and career success comes with a cost. You must be willing to give up something in order to grow. Continue reading

Greetings from Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada
We’ve had a great week here already. Celebrating Canada Day (July 1) and our July 4th Independence Day. Greater, however, is the wonderful association we enjoy with the brethren here in the Niagara Region. In addition to Lord’s Day worship and Wednesday evening Bible study, we’ve enjoyed Sunday dinner, a cookout, Gelato, ice cream , a wonderful Italian dinner, and today a soccer game –all of this with many of our friends and brethren in the area. Two weeks ago at the Southside Lectures Russ Bowman presented a lesson simply entitled, “Train Your Children.”
It was personal. Powerful. And penetrating. It was the impassioned plea of a father who has raised his children, continues to care about them, and fervently desires for Christian parents to seriously consider their God given family responsibilities Continue reading

Since tomorrow is a US holiday, Independence Day, and this past Saturday here in Ontario was Canada Day, celebrating their founding as a country, we’re taking a couple days off. But here’s a reblog from 9 years ago, that speak to issues both countries face.
Have a great 4th of July. And we’ll see you with a new post on Wednesday.
Tomorrow is Independence Day–the day we celebrate American’s freedom from Great Britain. On July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, 56 courageous men signed the Declaration of Independence.
While the signers held varying religious beliefs, they were believers in God. This grand document is not only a revered part of our history, but the foundation of our republic. The Declaration has five references to God—two in the first paragraph, one in the middle, and two in the last.

Our much anticipated return to Canada is now a reality. We arrived late afternoon on Thursday. Our trip was smooth. And without any problems. Plus we are here in time to join with our Northern friends in celebrating Canada Day today.
Looking forward to preaching tomorrow at the Wellandport Church where Mike Stephens is the full time preacher, and also serves as a Shepherd. Continue reading

This random post appeared on my facebook news feed recently by Emma Isabella. I don’t know her, but she shared a compelling and touching story by Emanuel Dotch, who’s a police officer for the Pritchard, Alabama, police department.
“Tonight while I was out riding around looking for something to eat, I was riding on I-10 and I noticed this elderly lady driving by herself headed towards Florida.” Continue reading
