Many of you noticed there wasn’t a post from ThePreachersWord yesterday. Nor will there be a recap post tomorrow.
This short post is a simple explanation. And a prayer request
Earlier this week, we received word that my Uncle, David Key, passed from this life. So, we have made a quick transition from the final days of our Thanksgiving getaway to regrouping, repacking, and making a trip to Louisville, Kentucky, for the funeral services.
Uncle David had been fighting a gallant battle against lung cancer for the past seven years. He knew and accepted that his time on this earth was limited. However, he was as doing well or better than one could expect. In fact, the very day he died he was planning a return trip to Okeechobee. Florida for the winter.
Our travel, plus a couple of other unforeseen personal circumstances have made writing new posts impossible. We hope to resume our normal schedule sometime next week.
We’re reminded (again) that our personal plans are subject to the caveat from James 4, “if the Lord wills.”
13 “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”;
14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”
16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. (James 4:13-16).
Others have had their plans changed this week as well. We’ve heard that two personal friends and gospel preachers have also passed away this week–Larry Hafley and Shane Scott. These families, as well as the Key family, solicit your prayers for comfort and strength while facing the heart-break of death.
While the ugly specter of death rears its ugly head to break hearts and to separate loved ones, we are blessed to know that we do not “grieve as others do who have no hope” (1 Thess. 4:13).
