An Unborn Human Being

Abortion rights access will be on the ballot in at least 8 states on the November 5th election, including the battleground state Arizona.

Conservatives, opposed to abortion, have distributed pamphlets providing  information about abortion referring to the “unborn human being” in the mother’s womb. This angered liberals, prompting a law suit and a ruling by a Maricopa County Superior Court judge, who said the term “unborn human being” was “packed with emotion and partisan meaning” and ordered it to be replaced “with a neutral term.”

However,   Reuters  recently reported that “The Arizona Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled a fetus can be referred to as an “unborn human being” in pamphlets for voters to decide about the constitutional right to an abortion.”

A pro abortion group called Arizona for Abortion Access issued a statement saying, “We are deeply disappointed in this ruling, but will not be deterred from doing everything in our power to communicate to voters the truth of the Arizona Abortion Access Act and why it’s critical to vote YES to restore and protect access to abortion care this fall.”

I can visualize our readers collectively shaking their heads at this nonsenseal double talk. Imagine it takes a high court ruling to determine that a pregnant woman is carrying “an unborn human being.” And furthermore that such a ruling upsets supposedly intelligent people.

This reminds me of the apostle Paul’s statement concerning the depravity of the ancient Gentile world. “Professing to be wise, they became fools” (Rom. 1:22). Abortion advocates have foolishly claimed it is a woman’s right to abort her child. “It’s my body,” she boasts. Yet, the Bible teaches, that your body belongs to the Lord. It is “the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 6:19-20). It is NOT  yours to abuse and misuse. Furthermore, the pregnant woman is carrying in her body another person. “An unborn human being,” who also has rights.

For ThePreachersWord, abortion is not a social or political issue, it is a spiritual issue.

In the early days when abortion was legalized we often heard the the unborn baby, was merely a fetus, and dismissed as  just “a clump of cells.” Abortion was no different that woman going to the Dentist and having a tooth extracted. Or having a surgeon remove a tumor.

In more recent years with modern ultrasound technology and advanced medical knowledge, we’ve learned the truth about the unborn baby. On the web page of “Choices Pregnancy Centers” of Phoenix, this information is offered.

  • At the moment of fertilization, an unborn baby possesses all the DNA-coded information it needs to be a totally separate person.
  • At conception, “ethnicity, hair color, eye color, and other traits are already determined.”
  • A baby’s heart beats as early as week three, and all limbs and organs are perfectly formed by week 4 or 5!

These scientific facts cannot be denied even by pro-abortion advocates. So, they must resort to other means to obfuscate the issue and redefine the argument.

Interestingly, the Bible all along has provided us with insight into the status of the unborn in God’s eyes.

The Bible uses the expression “with child” 26 times to refer to pregnant women. The term fetus is never used. Luke, the physician, records that Elisabeth, the mother of John, the Immerser, conceived a son (1:35). In verse 41 the doctor wrote, “the baby leaped in her womb.” The baby. Not the fetus. It is the same Greek word that Luke uses to describe Jesus after he was born (2:12, 16). God views the unborn baby and the newborn baby in the same way. Both are living human beings.

In the midst of his suffering Job cries out, “Or why was I not hidden like a stillborn child. Like infants who never saw light?” (3:16). The unborn child is called an infant.

Even the Psalmist, King David, who lived 1000 years before Christ spoke of God knowing him as person in his mother’s womb (Ps. 139:13-16)

Bible Believers and anyone else with common sense have known long before a Supreme Court ruling that a pregnant women is carrying “an unborn human being.”

Ken, In Romans1: we see the term” without natural affection”; we live in a society where selfishness reigns and evil is justified. Telling a person you have the right because it is your body tells me that a person has no thought of God, and that unless their heart is converted that God will abort them with His justice, This should not give us joy but sadness at how humanism and selfishness rules in our hearts. Thanks for the reminder of what a vile act it is and how we as Christians should recognize this is more than a political issue.

Powerful message today, Ken. Thank you. I find it so ludicrous that Kamala pushes for “reproductive rights” when all she means is the blocking of reproduction.
