When Will America Fall?

How would you destroy a country from within?” asks conservative columnist Cal Thomas in a recent transcript.

His answer? “There are many ways, some of which I’ve written about, including massive national debt, uncontrolled immigration, and a loss of shared moral values.”

“All three are tearing us apart,” Thomas adds, “especially the loss of shared moral values.”

Thomas also has written a book entitled, “America’s Expiration Date,” a sober warning and wake up call to “learn history so that we are not doomed to repeat it.”

I thought about this when I saw on the “This Day in History” web page that today is the anniversary of the death of Alexander The Great. He died June 13, 323 B.C. at the age of 32.

Alexander The Great was the “Macedonian military genius who forged an empire stretching from the eastern Mediterranean to India.” It is said that at one point he “controlled the largest empire in the history of the world.” Legend has it that Alexander sat down and wept when he thought there were no more worlds left to conquer.

Although, Alexander the Great is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, his empire is alluded to in the book of Daniel. In Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of the great image, Daniel interpreted it to represent four great kingdoms. Babylon, over which Nebuchadnezzar ruled. The Medo-Persians who would conqueror the Babylonian Kingdom. Greece, the empire of Alexander the Great. And lastly the Roman Empire (Dan. 2).

Greece, depicted in the image by the belly and thighs of bronze, Daniel prophesied would “rule over all the earth.” But like great nations prior to it and powerful ones succeeding it, like Rome, it fell.

The prophet Jeremiah reminded Judah just prior to their collapse that God was in control of the nations.

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!
7 The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it
8 if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it.
9 And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it,
10 if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.
–Jer 18:5-10

Today, Jehovah has given His Son, Jesus, “All authority in heaven and on earth” (Matt. 28:18). He is the “King of kings and Lord of lords” (1 Tim. 6:15). Our nation is in his hands. And there is no doubt we have an expiration date. Either when this world comes to an end, or when the Lord judges us for our immorality and rejection of Him and His Word.

How long can a nation stand that defies God’s moral laws? That rejects His Word? That mocks His marriage laws? That celebrates perversion? That worships the creation instead of the Creator? That calls evil good and good evil? That is consumed by vile passions? That punishes those who speak Truth, and rewards those who propagate error? And has lost its way so badly that cannot discern the difference between a man and a woman?

How long, O Lord? I don’t know. But I know history. And I know what the Word says.

I also know that Daniel prophesied that another Kingdom would arise in the time of the fourth world power (Rome). This Kingdom would break in pieces all others and it would stand forever. That Kingdom was promised by Jesus in the first century (Matt. 16:16-19; Mk. 9:1; Ax 1:3) It’s a spiritual Kingdom. And it was established on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2.

This spiritual Kingdom will last forever. It cannot be shaken or shattered. When this world is destroyed, Christ will deliver this Kingdom to the Father (1 Cor. 15:24). As a result its citizens will receive their heavenly reward and dwell with Him for eternity (2 Pet. 1:11; Phil. 3:30-21).

As we continue our pilgrimage in this corrupt culture, remember this: nations rise and fall. God is in control. Even when the United States of America falls, the kingdom of God will stand forever.

Ken, this is a powerful blog and should be an eye opener for all who read it. The scripture is very plain about nations that rise and fall and we do know who is in control!

  2. It is truly sad to see such promise collapse. But when nations reject and dismiss God as their Sovereign, a fall is inevitable. I take hope in the truth and awesome fact that our God Almighty remains our individual fortress and shelter and His perfect plans WILL be accomplished to His glory!! Great though sad message. I wish so many would consider the truth of it more. God Bless!
