Tomorrow, I’m beginning a new weekly column on ThePreachersWord called– “ It’s Friday. But Sunday’s Coming!”
This title comes from an old sermon by S. M. Lockrige that was made famous by author and speaker Tony Campolo some thirty years ago. But more on that later.
The reason for this new weekly column is twofold. First, I’m going to five days a week in publishing ThePreachersWord. That was my intention in the beginning. But I wanted to start with a daily column. In fact, Norma Jean said one day when she was proofing, “You don’t have to write this every day!” Of course, I didn’t. I just wanted to.
Secondly, with our upcoming move to Kansas City and an increase in work load, I think me, my wife and our readers will be better served by only publishing Monday through Friday.
So, why the column? Well, I’ve enjoyed posting every Sunday some thoughts relative to worship. The cross. Communion. And the importance of the Lord’s day. I’ve had several good comments on how helpful it has been for reflection before worship. Or others who have used the posts during the communion service. I want to continue writing on thoughts that prepares us for worship on Sunday.
So “It’s Friday. But Sunday’s Coming” will be a series that every Friday will point us to Sunday. We will do a good bit of writing on the actual events of Friday. And I will deal with some of our thoughts, problems, and defeats that trouble us on Friday, that will seem less important on Sunday. And in fact, those issues will be seen in a new light when Sunday comes!
Ok, I’ve got to get busy on tomorrow’s post. See ya tomorrow. Just remember when you read it. ‘It’s Friday. But Sunday’s Coming!”
