Three Daily Challenges for Every Christian

Last night at West Citrus Tom Quinn began a study from one of Wilson Adams’ workbooks Simple Scenes from the Life of Jesus.

The first lesson was based on Jesus statement in Luke 9:23. “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Continue reading

1 Corinthians 16:15-18

I doubt if any of our readers know the name E. J. Nichols. I wouldn’t either except for reading about him in Dee Bowman’s book, “It’s All About the People.”

Before Dee dedicated himself to full time preaching, he worked in radio. Occasionally, Grover Stevens, the preacher at the Caprock, Church in Lubbock, Texas, where Dee and Norma attended would ask Dee to preach when he was away. Continue reading

The Core Mission of the Church

According to an article on The Christian News web page by Donna Birrell the Peterborough Cathedral in England is planning to hold an Ibiza-themed concert in November.

This concert, set to take place on “All Souls day” is being strongly criticized by church leaders across the Church of England.

In an interview with The Telegraph Daniel French, who serves as the vicar of Salcombe, said the event was “incongruent with the Christian message,” and that it “doesn’t feel quite right.” Continue reading

Perseverance is Fundamental

John Grisham is the one of world’s most commercially successful novelists of the last 35 years. He has well over 100 million books in print in 31 languages. He had authored 50 consecutive #1 best sellers. Yet Grisham was hardly an overnight success in his transition from attorney to writer.

A Time to Kill, Grisham’s first novel, was rejected by 28 agents and publishers. When an agent finally did take him as a client, the book’s first press run was only 5,000 copies. Grisham himself purchased 1,000 and hawked his work to bookstores from the trunk of his car. Continue reading

Jesus’ Preaching vs Modern Preachers

I assume most of our readers know the name Sewell Hall.  If you don’t, he’s a 94 year old gospel preacher living in the Atlanta area who has dedicated his life to living for Christ.

Brother Hall is  known as a careful Bible student, a faithful proclaimer of the Word, an excellent song leader, as well as a thought-provoking writer and author.  Among his published works are two of my favorites, The Winter of Life: Redeeming the Time, which encourages those of  us as we’re growing older, and Hallmarks: Lights in the World, true stories about every day Christians who are letting their light shine and making a difference in the world. Let’s Replace Boundaries with Morals

“Nowadays we’ve forgotten the word morals and replaced it with boundaries,” opined Freya India a London based freelance writer who focuses on politics, psychology, and culture.

I don’t know anything about Miss India’s religious affiliation, but she is spot on in her critique regarding many of our cultural problems today. Continue reading

Ecclesiastes 8:11

“If you don’t punish this stuff, it’s going to continue,” commented Amanda Silverstein, a Columbia University student when interviewed yesterday by a national news outlet.

Amanda, of course, was referring to the anti-Israel protests that marked the beginning of the school year at Columbia University. Jewish students felt unsafe by the taunts, insults, and outright hate speech hurled by the protestors. In a few cases, there were threats of physical violence. Continue reading
