Never Too Old

Steve Rudd is a friend of mine and preaching colleague in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Steve’s a unique fellow with a variety of skills and interests including his work in archaeology which takes him on annual excavation trips to Israel. Just prior to leaving for a 6 week “dig,” Steve received a call from his 92-year-old Mom, which Steve said left him at a “lost for words,” which is unusual for him.

Here’s Steve’s post of what happened. Continue reading

4 Ways the Attitude of Entitlement Violates Bible Principles

I recently read a story about a college graduate who was hired at a marketing firm in an entry-level position. Despite being new, he believed he should be immediately assigned to high-profile clients and creative leadership roles, saying his degree from a top school “should count for something.” Continue reading

Acts 20:7–First Day Focus

My friend, preaching colleague, and fellow blogger, Roger Shouse, is fond of saying, “Sunday is the best day of the week.”

He often speaks in his blogs about how special Sunday is to him and how much he looks forward to it. In one post, he gushed, “I love Sundays.”

Weekly Recap; April 28-May 2

Greetings from the Great Smoky Mountains

Norma Jean and I are enjoying one of our special places to visit this week.  The beauty, serenity, and majesty of the mountains reminds us of God’s greatness.  And, it’s just good for the soul.

Additionally, we always enjoy worship with the brethren in Cosby, an easy and picturesque 20 minute drive from Gatlinburg, where I’m privileged to preach whenever we visit. (Yes, I’m preaching at Cosby tomorrow).  If you’re ever in the Smokies, we recommend you worship with these fine folks. Continue reading

5 Unique Characteristics of Christ’s Crucifixion

Two weeks ago the religious world and even the secular world in general was focused on and talking about the crucifixion of Christ on “Good Friday” and His resurrection on “Easter Sunday”.

This world has moved on to other issues and stories. Christians have not. Jesus’ vicarious death, burial, and resurrection is a weekly remembrance and celebration. Continue reading

Ps 119:71– When Affliction is Good

There are many apocryphal stories and quotes floating around about C. S. Lewis. This may be one of them.

I read where a man who was dealing with doubts once questioned the British author asking, “Why do the righteous suffer?” Continue reading
