“Zeal is essential to success,” advised the 19th century British preacher Charles Spurgeon. In a sermon he once offered this observation.
“Brethren, we would not condemn the use of zeal in the common affairs of life, for zeal is essential to success; we only wish that Christians would take copy from worldly men and be half as earnest and half as ambitions to maintain and increase the kingdom of their Lord and Master, as some men are after petty trifles or selfish aggrandizements.” Continue reading

Greetings From Beverly Hills, FL
While the first 4 days this week were spent enjoying the sights and food of St. Augustine, we still managed to post every day from our “office” at the Homewood Suites.
Thursday’s post, The Christian’s Armor, was based on an encounter we had one morning with another guest. If you missed that post I hope you will read it. In fact, as our regular readers know, the purpose of this Saturday post is a recap on the past week’s posts as a easy way for you to catch up in case you missed one. Continue reading

Life Coach Dominique Brits posted a story on her facebook page that captured my attention.
I’m not sure if Dominique is the author of the story, or even if it’s a true story. Regardless, it makes a powerful point.
Please read this and decide how you can apply to your life Continue reading

Tuesday morning I was up early working on my blog in the breakfast room at Homewood Suites in St. Augustine.
I noticed a man dressed in a coat and tie at table near me reading his Bible. Later when Norma joined me for breakfast, the man was still there. When he finished reading, I walked over and introduced myself.
“My name is Chuck,” he said.
“We have something in common,” I shared. Continue reading

“He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
Lynn Anderson in They Smell Like Sheep, a book about spiritual leadership, relates a true story that happened on a Bible lands tour.
The guide was explaining how ancient Shepherds built a relationship with the sheep and gently cared for them. He pointed out that shepherds don’t drive sheep, they lead them; they hear his voice and follow him. Continue reading
Last Wednesday night our class at West Citrus studied a lesson from Matt Hennecke’s workbook on Bible Wars entitled “A Boy…A Stone…A Giant.”
Sunday, we were visiting the Central Church in Ocala and Jody Broyles’ lesson was “How To Kill A Giant.”
See a similar theme here?
So, I figured this was a sign that I either needed to slay a giant, or write about it. I’m going to do both. Continue reading

Hollywood has made a fortune from the plot of someone else inhabiting your mind and body and thus changing your life. Freaky Friday, 17 Again, and Family Switch all capitalized on this theme for some hilarious scenarios.
Author Max Lucado, however, offers a more serious thought. “What if for one day Jesus were to become you?” Continue reading

Greetings from Citrus County, Florida
As I write this in the early morning darkness of Friday, I’m waking up to a chilly 34 degrees, which is 14 degrees below normal for us. But with all the snow, ice and frigid temperatures many of you are facing, this is not so bad. At least we’re warming up to 60 today and potentially 67 tomorrow.
However, what I hope will warm your heart are this week’s posts. I know not every reader reads every single post every day This recap is an opportunity for you to catch up.
Monday’s post offers quotes from past US Presidents about the Bible which I think you will enjoy. Tuesday’s addresses an issue regarding your relationship with the Lord. Wednesday’s is the continuation of our series on Psalm 23. Thursday was an experiment with an AI generated post on the Biblical view of debt. And our weekly column, Facebook Friday, offers some advice from Doy Moyer you will find practical and much needed today, Live links are provided below for your easy access. Continue reading

“Never speak evil,” wrote Florida College professor Doy Moyer in a January facebook post.
While we have touched on this topic in previous posts, it appears that the reminder and exhortation is continually needed. Consider carefully Doy’s warning and the subsequent comments. Continue reading
