Nancy Kennedy is a writer for our local Citrus County Chronicle. She not only covers local news but writes a weekly column for the Religious section called “Grace Notes.”
Last week Nancy wrote about covering local graduations and shared some of the graduates’ wisdom from their speeches which she suggested “seemed different from years past.” In fact, she opined that “this generation seems to have a depth and wisdom that I never had when I graduated from high school in 1973. On a recent road trip we saw a billboard with bold letters that challenged us to “ELIMINATE POVERTY IN OUR LIFETIME.”
I turned to Norma Jean and said, “I guess they never heard Jesus’ statement: “You will always have the poor with you” (John 12:8). Continue reading

This week it’s been in the thousands. Any of our German readers know why? Is there a revival in Germany? Not complaining. Just wondering. Hope you folks from the Deutschland stay with us. Thanks for reading and sharing our little blog. Continue reading

My facebook friend and former Florida College classmate, Becky Hunter Copeland, recently posted a quote from Dennis F. Kinlaw that captured my attention and spawned a few thoughts for today’s “facebook Friday.”
Kinlaw, the late past President of Asbury College, and respected as an Old Testament scholar, was the author of several books. This quote is found in his devotional “This Day With the Master.” Continue reading

On this day in history, May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary became the first man to climb Mount Everest.
Along with Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, the British expedition become the first known explorers to reach the Everest summit, which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point on earth.
Hillary was knighted for his efforts. He even made American Express credit card commercials because of it. However, when you read his book, High Adventure, you realize that Hillary had to grow into this success. Continue reading

“Making disciples, not members,” was the title of a Christian Chronicle article by Calvin Cockrell, I recently read online.
In it Cockrell quotes Quincy Byrdsong a minister at the Simpson Street Church of Christ in Atlanta, who said, “We have to quit just baptizing and not making disciples.” Continue reading
