HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Good morning.

I wanted to take a moment as I began the day to wish each of our readers a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I am so thankful for each of you who follow this little blog on a regular basis.  Thanks for your loyal readership. Thanks for sharing it with others  And thanks to those who take the time to comment, ask questions or offer suggestions.  I appreciate it.

We’re taking the rest of the week to enjoy the holiday with our children and grandchildren.  But I wanted to share one of my favorite Thanksgiving poems by an unknown author entitled.  “Thank You, God, for a Hundred Things.”  Hope you enjoy it.  Have a great day. Continue reading

Word of the Week: Soldier

Yesterday was Veterans Day in the United States. But it is celebrated as a holiday today.

Known in other countries as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, it celebrates the conclusion of major hostilities of World War I on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

In honor of our military, all non-essential federal offices will be closed. No mail is delivered. And federal workers receive a paid holiday. Many towns have parades or other events honoring veterans. Some businesses offer discounts to those who served in the military.

While we appreciate and honor those who have severed our country and some have paid the ultimate price to maintain our freedom, consider a different kind of soldier. Continue reading

From Weakness Comes Power

Sunday morning Norma Jean and I worshiped with the Henderson Boulevard brethren and I spoke at their 11:00 AM service. While I came to share a gospel message, I left feeling, as I often do, that I received more than I gave.

Henderson is a warm, caring and loving church. It’s led by men who really understand servant-leadership. And it is obvious there’s a close-knit fellowship among their spiritual family. One of their Shepherds, Ron Drumm, who served as their full-time preacher for over 20 years, spoke at the 9:00 AM communion service. Continue reading

Great Verses of the Bible: John 8:32

There is an expression being used today by many celebrities and those in some spiritual communities that  describe their philosophical, religious or personal beliefs. “My truth.”

“My truth” speaks to one’s own experiences. It is subjective. And is often used to justify almost any kind of belief or religious practice, no matter how bizarre.

When “my truthers” are challenged they respond, “Well, that’s your truth. But it’s not my truth.” Continue reading

IT’S FRIDAY. BUT SUNDAY’S COMING! The Day the Disciples Deserted Jesus

This morning I’m reblogging a post from 6 years ago that was a part of a weekly column we wrote for 2 years. Hope it helps you. Enjoy!

The Psalmist prophesied it.  Jesus predicted it would happen.  Within hours.  Peter emphatically denied it could ever occur.  And so nodded all the disciples in agreement.  They would never  do that!  Do what?

My Future Plans

We are now four months into this new chapter of our lives combining travel with ministry and preaching opportunities. We have been to 16 states and 8 countries.

I have been blessed to preach 43 times and teach 18 classes. Currently, we are enjoying the Blue Ridge Mountains as we travel to Kettering, Ohio, for a gospel meeting. Following that, we’re headed to the Smoky Mountains and I will preach in Cosby, Tennessee, on October 21.

In November we will return to Florida and spend the month in Pinellas County and are scheduled to speak for the Henderson Boulevard church on the 4th and then speak one Sunday at the Skyview Church. Continue reading

A Serious Admonition To Bible Teachers

In a recent interview with CBN News, Dr James Dobson issued this warning, “May we be careful with the way we speak and think and talk against those who are opposed to everything we believe. You have to maintain a spirit of charity and love, and God will bless us if we do.

Dobson’s words ring particularly true this morning as I read from James 3 this sobering admonition. “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” Continue reading

A Tribute To Tyndale

On this date in history, October 4, 1537, the first complete English-language Bible was printed, with translations by William Tyndale and Miles Coverdale.

Inspired by a copy of Martin Luther’s German Bible, Tyndale began translating the New Testament into English about 1522 using the Greek text compiled by Erasmus, which was older than the Latin Vulgate.

When Tyndale’s intention was made known to the Bishop of London, he was officially denied permission, so under the threat of being labeled a heretic, he was forced to flee England, but persisted in his efforts. Continue reading

Priceless Scribbles

Children are on my mind this week, as we enjoy time with our grandchildren. This post was penned 6 years ago, 2 years before the first one was born. It takes on special meaning this morning as I’ve been up since 5 AM trying to comfort little Katernine Joy and watch her attempt to scribble in one of my books! Enjoy!

I recently came across a true story by Richard Fairchild that was published many years ago in the Christian Reader. It was called “Priceless Scribbles.” He tells about a father who touched his son’s life in a unique and unexpected way.

A young boy watched as his father walked into the living room. He noticed that his younger brother, John, began to cower slightly as their dad entered. The older boy sensed that John had done something wrong. Then he saw from a distance what his brother had done. The younger boy had opened his father’s brand new hymnal and scribbled all over the first page with a pen.
