Riding With The President-Elect

On the facebook page Church of Christ Bulletins and Articles I came across a post by Ronny Milliner who shared an interesting piece of history, posed an intriguing question, and offered a thoughtful challenge.

It’s one of our shorter facebook Friday posts. I hope you find it as fascinating as I did. Continue reading

Quotes To Live By

Those who are regular readers of ThePreachersWord know that I love quotes from various authors that speak truth in a concise, unique, or profound way.

Through the years I have filed them topically from books, newspapers, bulletins, or about any other source. The internet and social media, however, have made such quotes more readily accessable.

Today’s post is a composite of thoughts from a facebook page Mindful Christianity that posts quotes and memes from a variety of sources. Hope you find something in today’s post that will encourage, inspire, or challenge you. Continue reading

Warning: Contents May Cause Happiness

My friend, preaching colleague, and fellow Hoosier, Max Dawson, is a self proclaimed “car guy” and often uses car stories to illustrate moral and spiritual truth.

A few months ago Max posted this piece about happiness on his blog “Pontiacs, Points, and Proverbs.”

We offer it without comment.

Enjoy. Continue reading

Life Coach Dominique Brits posted a story on her facebook page that captured my attention.

I’m not sure if Dominique is the author of the story, or even if it’s a true story. Regardless, it makes a powerful point.

Never Speak Evil

“Never speak evil,” wrote Florida College professor Doy Moyer in a January facebook post.

While we have touched on this topic in previous posts, it appears that the reminder and exhortation is continually needed. Consider carefully Doy’s warning and the subsequent comments. Continue reading

Recently, he posted a short piece that spoke to me, and I’m sure it will to you as well. If you need a little nudge today to get going and do what you know you ought to do, this admonition may be just what you need. Continue reading

Stop the Anonymous Complaints

My facebook friend and gospel preacher, Jeff Carr, shared a post from Brad Harrub that resonated with me. And I’m sure it will with almost every preacher and elder.

“How can we make our local congregations stronger? Asked Brad. The answer is found in his well worded post “Stop the Anonymous Complaints.” Continue reading

Praising Jesus

“Nowhere are we told to celebrate Jesus’ birthday nor are we told when it is! History tells us they didn’t even celebrate birthdays at all in those days.” recently posted Phillip Martin.

Phillip’s post continues with a detailed description of the events of Jesus’ birth,. However, he concludes his post with this poignant thought. “There is no Golgotha if there is no Bethlehem!” Continue reading

Stop Fighting Lust…

I’m not sure who is the original author of this piece. I’ve seen it posted by two different people on both facebook and Instagram.

The headline caught my attention when it announced “Stop fighting lust–” What? I thought. But then the second part of the title offered a fuller explanation.
