Not Too Old

Today marks my 77th trip around the sun.

It’s remarkable in some ways to realize it, let alone admit it. Yet, the calendar doesn’t lie. Nor do the eyes, the ears, the color of the hair, nor does the hyperpigmentation of the skin, called age spots or liver spots. Continue reading

10 Bible Principles Regulating Cell Phone Usage

“Mr. Watson, come here; I want you.”

In case you missed it, yesterday, March 10, 1876, was the anniversary of these words spoken by Alexander Graham Bell to his assistant in another room. It was the first discernible speech transmitted over a telephone system. Continue reading

Five Ways God Helps Us Grow

I’m reading a book right now entitled, “Not Too Old, ”by David Faust. It’s subtitled “Turning Your Later Years Into Greater Years.” I would recommend it to any senior saint.

In his chapter on pursuing maturity as an older adult, Faust wrote, “Someone summed up senior adulthood by saying, “In your sixties, it’s ‘go, go, go.’ In your seventies it’s ‘slow, slow, slow.’ In your eighties it’s no, no, no!” Continue reading

The Christian’s Armor

Tuesday morning I was up early working on my blog in the breakfast room at Homewood Suites in St. Augustine.

I noticed a man dressed in a coat and tie at table near me reading his Bible. Later when Norma joined me for breakfast, the man was still there. When he finished reading, I walked over and introduced myself.

“My name is Chuck,” he said.

“We have something in common,” I shared. Continue reading

How To Be A Giant Killer

Last Wednesday night our class at West Citrus studied a lesson from Matt Hennecke’s workbook on Bible Wars entitled “A Boy…A Stone…A Giant.”

Sunday, we were visiting the Central Church in Ocala and Jody Broyles’ lesson was “How To Kill A Giant.”

See a similar theme here?

So, I figured this was a sign that I either needed to slay a giant, or write about it. I’m going to do both. Continue reading

Building Zeal By Being Like Jesus

Hollywood has made a fortune from the plot of someone else inhabiting your mind and body and thus changing your life. Freaky Friday, 17 Again, and Family Switch all capitalized on this theme for some hilarious scenarios.

Author Max Lucado, however, offers a more serious thought. “What if for one day Jesus were to become you?” Continue reading

“Debt is a common aspect of modern life, from mortgages and student loans to credit cards and business financing. But what does the Bible say about debt?”

I asked this question to ChatGPT. I think you will be interested in the answer. Continue reading

Presidents Day and the Bible

“It is impossible to rightly govern without God and the Bible,” once affirmed our first President George Washington.

In his farewell address, September 19, 1796, Washington said, “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of right and order which Heaven itself has ordained…Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.” Continue reading

How To Get Rid Of Your Troubles

Some years ago, I was stuck on a crosstown bus in New York City during rush hour. Traffic was barely moving. The bus was filled with cold, tired people who were deeply irritated with one another, with the world itself.

Two men barked at each other about a shove that might or might not have been intentional. A pregnant woman got on, and nobody offered her a seat. Rage was in the air; no mercy would be found here.,” posted journalist and author Elizabeth Gilbert on her facebook page. Continue reading
