Don’t Be A Quitter

“I watched this Apple commercial over the holidays, and you may have seen it. It features a girl going out for a run on January 1st when it’s snowing,” posted Jay Ferguson on his blog.

“She’s clearly miserable, out-of-shape, wearing a pair of sweats that look like they belonged to your old middle school gym coach, devoid of the right gear. But, she does have an Apple Watch, which–spoiler alert–allows her to run all year long, progressively faster and in progressively better gear.” Continue reading

Reflections on Recent Snow Falls

The recent snow storm named Blair dumped incredible amounts of snow stretching across the Midwest from Kansas into the Ohio Valley.

Norma Jean and I watched the news accounts from the warmth of our Florida family room reminiscing about places where we’ve lived and experienced snow storms.

Our first winter in Ohio back in 1970 was Norma’s very first taste of snow. Living in Hillsboro and Kettering we saw snow. Lots of snow. It was also Norma’s first exposure to driving in snow that landed her in a ditch on a country road. Continue reading

Psalm 23: #1 The Lord is My Shepherd

In his book, God’s Psychiatry, Charles L. Allen tells about a businessman who came to him for advice.

The businessman was talented, successful, and had risen to be chosen as president of his company. “Yet, along the way,” Allen wrote, “he had left out something, and one of the things he did not achieve is happiness.” Allen observed that he was a nervous, tense, worried, and a sick man. Consumer Worship

Last Fall at the annual Sing! Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, author and minister Alistair Begg sounded a warning against the “consumer worship” mindset in many churches.

Begg challenged attendees, including preachers, pastors, and church leaders to return to a “serious engagement with the Bible.” Continue reading

An Odor of Mendacity

Today we conclude our countdown of the top 10 posts published in 2024 with #1.
This March post was the runaway winner with the most reader views.  I’m not sure why.  Was it the graphic?  Or the unusual word “mendacity” that captured everyone’s attention?  Regardless, its message is worth repeating.

Always Be Kind

The 2024 countdown of the top 10 posts published in 2024 is down to #2.
This May post was based on a story told by Sherry Vonderhaar-Adair posted on her facebook page.  We used it to share some thoughts on kindness on our weekly column Facebook Friday.

If you missed this touching story with its lesson about kindness and the applications we made., you will definitely find it worth your time.  In fact, even if you read it back it May, it’s probably a good time of year to consider its life lesson again
