Don’t Twist The Scripture

Paula White is a self-proclaimed pastor, the television host of Paula Today, the president of Paula White Ministries and the National Faith Advisory Board, and the leader of the White House Faith Office.

In recent post online at Christianitytoday.com contributor Carmen Joy Imes writes that White “misappropriates God’s promises to ancient Israel in Exodus as a prosperity gospel for today.”

Apparently White released a video last week “encouraging Christians to celebrate Passover in order to unlock seven supernatural blessings.” Continue reading

Psalm 23 #11–The Good Shepherd

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life”

The theme and thesis of this entire Psalm has been devoted to the fact the shepherd is providing for the sheep. And it’s all summed up in today’s statement.

The sheep cared for by the good shepherd enjoy a special, privileged position. They are safe. Secure. And sheltered. They are protected from every predator, all harm, and even their own foolish missteps. They are calm, tranquil, and at peace in the flock. Continue reading

Don’t Be A Fool

Have you been pranked yet today? Or maybe you’re the one who’s doing the pranking?

Yep. Today is universally known as April Fool’s Day.

There are many theories on the origin of April Fool’s Day. But the most widely accepted, says ChatGPT, “is when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar as ordered by Pope Gregory XIII.” Continue reading

Fueling Your Zeal With Courage

The 18th century Prussian king Frederick the Great was widely known as an agnostic. By contrast, General Von Zealand, one of his most trusted officers, was a devout Believer in Christ.

The story’s told that during a festive gathering the king began making crude jokes about Christ until everyone was rocking with laughter–all but Von Zealand. Finally, he arose and addressed the king with this retort. Continue reading

Weekly Recap: March 24-28

Greetings from Beverly Hills, FL

I must be showing my age, but I can’t stay up and watch the late NCAA ball games anymore.   Is it just me, or are they starting the games later every year?  Sure seems like it.  BTW, I think for the first time ever I have all of my “Elite Eight” pick still alive. Continue reading

March Madness and Gambling

March Madness is now in full swing. With the play-in games and first rounds completed, the Sweet 16 will “duke it out” for the Final Four and ultimately the championship.

Even if you’re not a basketball fan, it’s difficult to escape the hoopla surrounding the annual NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament.

But, do you know what else is an annual March event? Continue reading

Psalm 23 #10– The Shepherd’s Anointing

“You anoint my head with oil”

In Bible times oil was frequently used for medicinal purposes. In Palestine they often used a combination of olive oil, sulphur, and spices. Oil was used by shepherds to cure scab, a highly contagious disease among sheep.

“Bugs bug people, but they can kill sheep,” wrote Max Lucado in Safe in The Shepherd’s Arms. “Flies, mosquitoes, and gnats can turn the summer into a time of torture for the livestock. Consider nose flies, for example. If they succeed in depositing their eggs into the membrane of the sheep’s nose, the eggs become worm-like larvae, which drive the sheep insane. Continue reading

We Are Better Together

The late Charles Osgood was an American radio and television commentator, writer, and musician. Known for his daily radio commentary “The Osgood Files,” he once shared this poignant story.

Two ladies who lived in a convalescent center had each suffered an incapacitating stroke. Margaret’s stroke left her left side restricted, while Ruth’s stroke damaged her right side. Both of these ladies were accomplished pianists but had given up hope of ever playing again. Continue reading

Fueling Your Zeal By Serving

Ben Pickman tells the story in Sports Illustrated of Herb Turetzky who attended the New Jersey Americans’ first-ever ABA game in October 1967 expecting to be just a spectator.

Turetzky, a student at LIU Brooklyn, arrived early at the Teaneck Armory. Max Zaslofsky, the Americans’ coach and GM who had attended the same high school as Turetzky, greeted him as he walked in, “Herb, can you help us out and keep score of the game tonight?”

Turetzky responded, “Max, I’d love to. I’m here, so why not?” Continue reading
