Because He Lives

Mark Nichols Posey is a pastor and preacher who serves the Lord’s church in Northwest Alabama. He has a facebook page called Pulpit Previews where he posts ideas for “Sermon Starters” with either a few single words, or sentences for preachers to develop into their own lessons.

Recently Mark posted four sentences from the chorus of the song “Because He Lives,” written by Bill and Gloria Gaither, with a one sentence explanation. Mark’s thoughts triggered these observations for today’s facebook Friday. Continue reading

Will Heaven Be Boring?

Author and theologian, John Piper, has a podcast called, “Ask Pastor John.” In a recent episode Piper addressed an issue raised by a listener named Mason, who wrote, “I have been struggling with the concept of eternity lately.”

After explaining his recent study from various sources about eternity and heaven, Mason then shared this perplexing concern. “I struggle to process something with no end. How will we not get bored?” Continue reading

Psalm 25:7– Remember Not, O Lord

This week I am in a meeting with the church in Belleville, Indiana. It’s a pleasure to be back in Hendricks County where I grew up. Returning “home” has unearthed so many memories.

Saturday we drove past the church building where I attended throughout my childhood and teenage years. It was where I went to Bible classes twice a week. Where I was baptized. Participated in worship services. Gave my first talk. And listened to and learned from the powerful preaching of Aude McKee. The building is now owned by another religious group, but there was a car in the parking lot. So we stopped and they invited us in. We walked into the auditorium and through the classrooms, thinking of Bible teachers and times spent learning God’s Word. So, many precious memories flooded my soul.

Fueling Your Zeal Through Worship

“We suffer from the “4 F’s” in life– fear, failure, frustration, and fatigue.”

While attributed to various authors, these 4 challenges are widely recognized in the realm of psychology. They constitute the commonality of experiences and emotions of all human kind. And Christians are not exempt.

These challenges can dampen our zest for life, diminish our passion for projects we once enjoyed, and severely decrease our get-up-and go. This is also true regarding our spiritual fervor. Continue reading

It’s Friday But Sunday’s Coming! What’s Good About “Good Friday”?

“It’s Friday. But Sunday’s Coming!” was a column we consistently posted from 2012 through 2016.  Each one spoke of some aspect of Jesus’ redemptive work through his life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension.

They are 175 posts archived for our readers to access.  Since today is identified as “Good Friday,” I am reposting this one published 11 years ago today on April 18th, 2014.  Many, if not most of our current readers, have never seen it.  I believe you would profit  from it’s message. Please take time to read this short post and share it. Continue reading

The Heart Of The Gospel

“The death of Christ did not terminate but did germinate his work,” penned the 19th century Scottish author and preacher, Ian MacLaren.

“The cross is the center of the world’s history,” MacLaren added. “The incarnation of Christ and the crucifixion of our Lord are the pivot around which all the events of the ages revolve.” Continue reading
