Acts 20:7–First Day Focus

My friend, preaching colleague, and fellow blogger, Roger Shouse, is fond of saying, “Sunday is the best day of the week.”

He often speaks in his blogs about how special Sunday is to him and how much he looks forward to it. In one post, he gushed, “I love Sundays.”

Why? What makes Sunday so special? Why would someone speak of loving Sunday above another day? Continue reading

Weekly Recap; April 28-May 2

Greetings from the Great Smoky Mountains

Norma Jean and I are enjoying one of our special places to visit this week.  The beauty, serenity, and majesty of the mountains reminds us of God’s greatness.  And, it’s just good for the soul.

Additionally, we always enjoy worship with the brethren in Cosby, an easy and picturesque 20 minute drive from Gatlinburg, where I’m privileged to preach whenever we visit. (Yes, I’m preaching at Cosby tomorrow).  If you’re ever in the Smokies, we recommend you worship with these fine folks. Continue reading

I read where a man who was dealing with doubts once questioned the British author asking, “Why do the righteous suffer?” Continue reading

Fueling Your Zeal With Fellowship

Religious surveys conducted by organizations like the Barna group and others have shown that the “more friendships a person has in a congregation, the less likely they are to become inactive or leave.”

I recently read one survey of over 400 people who were asked why they left the church. More than 75% responded, “I didn’t feel anyone cared whether I was there or not.” Continue reading
