Happy 4th of July

Since today is a holiday in the USA, we’re taking a blogging break.  Sorta.

However, knowing that rain is forecasted for much the country, plus realizing we’re read in many other countries, we’re linking three past posts relating to our 4th of July holiday in America for your reading profit and pleasure. Continue reading

Anything Important Happening Today?

“Nothing of importance happened today,” wrote King George III in his diary on July 4, 1776.

This ironic quote has been widely circulated in books, blogs, and even sermons illustrating that significant events may occur about which we’re unaware. I’ve probably used it myself in bygone days. Continue reading

2 Corinthians 5:7- Walking By Faith

I recently read that an African impala can jump to a height of over 10 feet and cover a distance of greater than 30 feet. Yet these magnificent creatures can be kept in an enclosure in any zoo with a 3-foot wall.

Why? Continue reading

In The Time That You Gave Me

Today marks almost the half way point of 2025. Six months behind us. 181 Days. 4,344 hours. “Time Marches On,” as Tracy Lawrence sang in his 1996 hit song.

But there’s another song, less famous, but probably more poignant, and definitely with deeper spiritual meaning for Christians. Norma Jean and I were watching some Joey+Rory videos last night and were touched by the lyrics “In The Time That You Gave Me.” Continue reading

Moral Relativism: A Threat to Our Spiritual Zeal

In 1985 Dr. Robert Bellah, an American sociologist, co-authored a book entitled Habits of the Heart. In one chapter he discusses the cultural shift in religious beliefs.

In chapter 9, he shares the story of a young nurse, Sheila Larson who said, “I believe in God. {But} I’m not a religious fanatic.” Continue reading

Weekly Recap: June 23-27

Greeting from Beverly Hills, FL

It’s been almost 3 weeks since Norma’s surgery.  This week has been a bit of a roller-coaster. But the last two days have been her best.  She’s making slow, but steady progress. Again, thanks to so many who have expressed an interest in her health, shared your love, and most of all remembered Norma in your prayers. Continue reading

No Pets Allowed

Pressing On is an e-magazine edited by my friend and preaching colleague, Mark Roberts. It’s a bargain at just $10 a year.

Browsing the PO facebook page I found this article by one of the regular staff writers, Dene Ward, an author of Bible class literature, speaker at women’s events, and a devotional blogger. You can find her posts at flightpaths.org

Dene offers an excellent exhortation regarding an issue that has become all too prevalent, especially on social media. Continue reading

Disciples Are Disciplined

This month I’ve been presenting a series of sermons on the ABC’s of Discipleship. Literally. Letter by letter. Last week was the letter “D” and we discussed the value of discipline.

In preparing the lesson came across this observation by William Barclay about Samuel Taylor Coleridge the British poet. “Never did a great mind produce so little.” Continue reading

1 Timothy 2:1-2: Pray for the President

In the past five months since Donald J. Trump began his second term in office, he has continued to be criticized, second-guessed, and verbally attacked with vengeance and vitriol.

He must be the first President in history that can’t do anything right. He’s been subject to intense scrutiny and criticism over actions and policies his predecessors have taken, or at least promoted, yet they were not castigated by the news media. Continue reading
