It’s Friday But Sunday’s Coming! What’s Good About “Good Friday”?

“It’s Friday. But Sunday’s Coming!” was a column we consistently posted from 2012 through 2016.  Each one spoke of some aspect of Jesus’ redemptive work through his life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension.

They are 175 posts archived for our readers to access.  Since today is identified as “Good Friday,” I am reposting this one published 11 years ago today on April 18th, 2014.  Many, if not most of our current readers, have never seen it.  I believe you would profit  from it’s message. Please take time to read this short post and share it. Continue reading

The Heart Of The Gospel

“The death of Christ did not terminate but did germinate his work,” penned the 19th century Scottish author and preacher, Ian MacLaren.

“The cross is the center of the world’s history,” MacLaren added. “The incarnation of Christ and the crucifixion of our Lord are the pivot around which all the events of the ages revolve.” Continue reading

Fueling Your Zeal With Diligence

The 17th century British preacher John Wesley is estimated to have ridden over 250,000 miles on horseback preaching, teaching and ministering. He preached over 40,000 sermons.

Wesley authored over 400 publications in his lifetime. At age 83 was still writing, however, he was disappointed that after 15 hours at his desk his eyes would begin to hurt. At age 86, he was still preaching, but sad that he only had the stamina to preach twice a day instead of three times as he had for many years. Continue reading

How To Walk With God

Our Wednesday evening Bible Class where we worship at West Citrus is studying the Heroes of faith from Hebrews 11. Last night we studied about Enoch.

The Bible says “Enoch walked with God” (Gen. 5:22). This reminds me of the story of a mother who asked her 8-year-old son, Jason, what he studied in Bible class that day.

“A man named Enoch,” replied Jason. Continue reading

Psalm 23 #12–The Father’s House

“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”

Today is the final post in this series on Psalm 23.

We began with the jubilant pronouncement “The Lord is My Shepherd,” and now we close with a buoyant affirmation, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

We have traversed the green pastures in the lowlands, to the refreshing still waters, through the dangerous mountain paths, to the plateau of the mountain top and now return to the home ranch to reside in the winter months. Continue reading

Spiritual Lessons From The Basketball Court

Last night the University of Florida Gators came from behind to beat the Houston Cougars, 65-63 and claim the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Trophy.

Watching sporting events often reminds me of the many similarities between the qualities necessary for athletic success that are essential for spiritual success. In fact, the apostle Paul often wrote about it using the imagery of the sports world Continue reading
