Quotes To Live By

Those who are regular readers of ThePreachersWord know that I love quotes from various authors that speak truth in a concise, unique, or profound way.

Today marks my 77th trip around the sun.

It’s remarkable in some ways to realize it, let alone admit it. Yet, the calendar doesn’t lie. Nor do the eyes, the ears, the color of the hair, nor does the hyperpigmentation of the skin, called age spots or liver spots. Continue reading

Zeal Without Knowledge

“Zeal without knowledge is like fire without a grate to contain it; like a sword without a hilt to wield it by; like a high-bred horse without a bridle to guide him,” wrote Julias Bates in Forbes Magazine.

This is reminiscent of an old saying, “Fire in the fireplace warms the house, but fire on the carpet burns the house down.” Continue reading

Warning: Contents May Cause Happiness

My friend, preaching colleague, and fellow Hoosier, Max Dawson, is a self proclaimed “car guy” and often uses car stories to illustrate moral and spiritual truth.

A few months ago Max posted this piece about happiness on his blog “Pontiacs, Points, and Proverbs.”

We offer it without comment.

Enjoy. Continue reading
