You Have Everything You Need

My facebook friend, preaching colleague, and fellow Rotarian, David West, posts a lot of interesting, funny, and sometimes serious quotes and memes on his facebook page.

Recently, he posted a short piece that spoke to me, and I’m sure it will to you as well. If you need a little nudge today to get going and do what you know you ought to do, this admonition may be just what you need.

You Have Everything You Need

You don’t need more time,
you need less distractions.

You don’t need motivation,
you need self-control.

You don’t need more resources,
you need resourcefulness.

You don’t need luck,
you need preparation.

You don’t need to be busy,
You need to be focused.

You don’t need to know everything,
you just need to start.

I’m not sure if David is the author of this piece, but it succinctly speaks to an urgent need within is all from time to time.

There is a human tendency to procrastinate, postpone, or make excuses for not being proactive. Most of us have probably experienced the negative side of these contrasts regarding some project, activity, or enterprise. Physical, material, and secular endeavors that succumb to these weaknesses will always result in low performance, if not complete failure.

The positive side, on the other hand, will produce progress, achievement, and success.

More serious than our business or personal endeavors is our spiritual efforts. In view of the author’s claim, You Have Everything You Need, consider the application of these verses.

Eph 5:15-16
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

2 Peter 1:5-6
“Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness.”

Col 3:23
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Rom 12:6
“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them”

Luke 16:10
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much.”

Matt. 25:1-13
The parable of the wise and foolish virgins speak to issues of preparation, readiness, focus, foresight, and personal responsibility.

Finally, King David’s advice to his son, Solomon, who was ascending to the throne and assigned the monumental task of building the temple, is a good motto for whatever challenge you face today:

“Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God — my God — will be with you” (1 Chro. 28:20).
