You Have Everything You Need

My facebook friend, preaching colleague, and fellow Rotarian, David West, posts a lot of interesting, funny, and sometimes serious quotes and memes on his facebook page.

Recently, he posted a short piece that spoke to me, and I’m sure it will to you as well. If you need a little nudge today to get going and do what you know you ought to do, this admonition may be just what you need. Continue reading

How To Be Used By God

Last night our Bible class studied the inspiring story of Gideon recorded in Judges 6-7.

Gideon was a farmer who enjoyed farming. He had no political ambitions. No leadership aspirations. No dreams of greatness. He was not from a high social class. He was the youngest of his family. And just trying to make a living. Continue reading

Psalm 23–#4 Still Waters

“He leads me beside the still waters”

How do you view God?

Several years ago USA Today published a survey that found over 31% of Americans saw God as an “Authoritarian.” They felt he was mostly angry and was ready to punish us if we didn’t shape up.

More than 24% viewed God as “distant,” and 16% saw God as “critical” and “judgmental.”

So, more than 70% held a view of God contrary to the teaching of the Bible and the thesis of this Psalm–”The Lord is my Shepherd. Continue reading

Have Mercy

Last week President Trump and Vice President Vance and their families attended The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral. It’s a tradition that stretches back to 1933 and the inauguration of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The speaker at the service, Mariann Edgar Budde, identified as the “Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church” caused quite a stir with her sermon and direct appeal to the President. Continue reading

Combustible Christianity

Dan Adkins tells a story about the meeting house of a village church catching on fire.

It was after mid-night and the building was going up in flames. A large crowd had gathered. As the preacher pulled into the parking lot, seeing many in the community who  had never been to church, he walked to the front of the crowd and his voice thundered. Continue reading

PARDONED!

In the final days of his Presidency, Joe Biden issued more pardons than any President in history, including a pardon for his son, Hunter, and many of his family members.

On his first day in office, President Trump, created some controversy as he issued pardons for most of those convicted during the January 6th riots at the Capitol four years ago.

A Presidential pardon is one of the greater powers given to our President. The pardon releases one from prison, relieves one of the consequences of the crime, and restores their rights. It’s as though they’ve never broken the law. Continue reading

Psalm 23–#3 Green Pastures

“He makes me to lie down in green pastures”

“”The strange thing about sheep is that because of their very makeup it is almost impossible fo them to be made to lie down unless four requirements are met,” wrote the East African born W. Phillip Keller in “A Shepherd Looks at the 23rd Psalm.” Continue reading

#Not My Caesar, Part Two

Four years ago we published a post based on an article written by an Illinois preacher, David Diestelkamp, entitled #NotMyCaesar.

It was in response to some who would not accept Joe Biden as President and were posting #NotMyPresident.

Yesterday, with Donald Trump’s return to the Oval Office, some are offering similar responses.  Even before the ceremony and festivities began there was criticism, resistance, dire predictions, and derogatory comments about Trump’s second term. Sadly, by some Christians. Continue reading
