Post Election Thoughts

With a few exceptions, I have been generally pleased with most posts that have come across my facebook feed this week following the election. Most have been respectful.

Moving forward, here are a few thoughts that we need to embrace now and in the coming days and weeks.

Next week ThePreachersWord will move on to other issues. But for now…

Candice Thomas offers this piece which I’ve seen posted  by others. Not sure, if she authored it, or it’s by someone else. But it’s helpful.

Half the country is rejoicing and half are grieving.

Half are celebrating and half are wondering what in the world just happened.

Half feel like we are headed in the right direction and half feel like we have moved backwards.

I don’t know which half you reside in, but I want you to know I am praying for you today. For the one filled with hope and the one who is hopeless. For the one who was hoping it would go this way and for the one who just wants to spend the day on the couch binge watching Netflix under a soft blanket.

We must be kind.
We must be filled with compassion.
We must be filled with grace.
We must remember we are not enemies.
We reside here together.

Love God with all your heart and soul and mind.
And love your neighbor as yourself.

There is much outside of our control.
But this – this we can do.

Just prior to the election result Tricia Felicien shared these scriptural thoughts.

Everyone, no matter the outcome, God still sits high on His throne. He uses both good and evil to achieve His will. I will continue to be like Daniel and do God’s will.

Christians, children of God in the true sense of the Word, let us continue to be a light because we serve a higher power.

Following the election, Tricia wrote.

The Lord has blessed you with another day. Don’t stress about things you can’t control. Worry about are you right with God. Pray for everyone, including our Leaders who are elected.

Last night I went to bed less stressed knowing that My God is in charge and will still be sitting on His throne. I woke up this morning thinking about making sure to let others know there is Hope only in God.

Doy Moyer suggested these prayer petitions and an exhortation to love others as Jesus commanded.

Today…
Pray for President Biden. He is still President for a time and is obviously struggling.

Pray for Vice President Harris. She is surely heart-broken and reeling today. Pray for her supporters that peace may prevail.

Pray for President-Elect Trump. There’s a great deal on his table in dealing with a divided nation and many difficult issues.

Pray for Senators, Congressmen, Judges, Governors, and all political figures, incoming and outgoing, that they may all support the peaceful transfer of powers and seek to do what is right.

Love your neighbors. Love your enemies. Pray that all may come to a knowledge of the truth and be saved (1 Tim 2:1-4). This is God’s will, and it is the goal of our prayers that peaceful and tranquil lives may point to God so that salvation may be shown to all.

After observing the polarization of our electorate and dysfunction of our political process, Wilson Adams offered this advice.

“If you expressed your right at the ballot box, that’s the end of what you can do. I suggest you leave it in His hands and pray -for a righteousness that exalts a nation, -that “we may lead a peaceful life in all godliness and dignity,” -that whatever happens can be used to further the Kingdom Cause -in ways we may not see or understand.”

Finally, Steve Wolfgang, simply posted a scriptural reminder from Psalm 20:7 with a principle that still has application today.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Finally, may we all as Christians remember that we are Kingdom citizens. Thus, let us live, speak, act and post our thoughts on social media in a manner that reflects the character of our King and honors His Word.
