“I believe it is unbiblical to elevate entertainment over preaching and to put public relations ahead of worship in our church services,” wrote John MacArthur in his book “Ashamed of the Gospel” and subtitled “When the Church Becomes Like the World.”
MacArthur’s book was orbitally published in 1993 and has been updated twice. He further warns against fleshly enticements, secular methods, and watering down the gospel to draw crowds. Current trends show little change as churches head farther in that direction. Continue reading

I came across this quote the other day on a church web page.
‘The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give your gift away.”
The quote was attributed to William Shakespeare. However, that doesn’t sound exactly like the type of thing he would writeth or sayeth. Yet, regardless of its source, the quote offers some wonderful life advice. Plus, it has a Biblical basis. Continue reading

The late Celestine Sibley was an American author and journalist who wrote a regular column for the Atlanta Constitution for many years. She also wrote 25 books including the award-winning, Children, My Children.
Sibley tells about once taking her three children to a diner for breakfast one morning. It was crowded and they had to take separate seats at the counter. Eight-year-old Mary was seated at the far end of the counter and when her food was served she called down to her mother in a loud voice, “Mother, don’t people say grace in this place?” Continue reading
